seting those up with higher then 87 octane will not hurt the engine the kawasakis are desighned to o on 90 octane. and if you find it runs better with the choke partially on the adjust the carb to run richer some times the carb is not adjustable so you can then take a glowwrench tip cleaner and ream out the main jet. overall i feel most of the import small engines have many problems and its extremley difficult to get parts.

have you tried a different carb or jets?
