If the typical comic reader is anything like the comic store dude on The Simpsons, then making batwoman a lesbian is pure marketing genius. Those chick-less nerds will be all over it!

Why would the new Batwoman need to be lesbian? I know hetero women who are athletic and capable.

Are they trying to say a woman who can do what Batwoman does must be a lesbian, because they don't think hetero women could do it (or want to do it)?

IMO it's neither. It is a promotion tool to stir up a bit of publicity and controversy to get people to discuss the company's comics (which seems to be working!!)

They did the same thing with, I think, Green Lantern???? gay, isn't he?

Also, it's differentiate the character from other female comic book characters and at least to attract some lesbian, (or just female) readers.

i think comics are a dying way anyway and this might just be either last attack or genius. either way, there will be a lot of talk and some maybe be intrigued or dismiss totally.

hmmm, i might just buy one of these comics.

i think it's just a marketing ploy. as they say "any publicity is good publicity" as long as they get people to talk about them and buy them, who cares whats in it? companies just want to make profit and if they need to involve homosexuality, that's what they'll do.

and i dont know why guys find lesbians and 3-somes hot. many of us just do, i cant give any kind of explanation, it's like why do we find breasts hot.
