Thanks a lot, PMan. I did that with the windshield of the Tamiya Subaru Impreza and the masking tape that is included in the kit. I brushpainted the window frames and the paint went under the masking tape. How could I avoid that?

Wink Great post!!

Super job....I had wondered if I was doing it "right". I guess anyway that works is right, but your way looks much easier! I have airbrushed in the past out of fear of bleeding under the tape. I'll use this method on my current project!!

THANK YOU!

Rick

BTW- Maybe we could all pitch in and buy the Pman an airbrush?? :flash:

I agree, always use a fresh blade - No11's work best - and you wont need to apply much pressure as the Pman mentioned. Do this and it is possible to cut through the tape and leave no mark on the paint at all. If you do scratch the paint underneeth, it doesnt matter coz its gonna be covered with black anyway!
True. But I was talking about going through paint, and this is not a good idea as it weakens its resistance to masking tape. So my point really is to practice cutting the tape with just the right pressure and not damage the paint.

Masking the rest of the body off for this task is easy if you use thin plastic like from shopping bags to cover the rest of the panels and underside.

Snooker......just press down as hard as possible with a cloth or rub a toothpick along the edge of the tape to seal it down.

Forhod.....I usually paint all the rubbers and the inside of the car....wait a few minutes (3-4) then add the second coat on.

Thanks for the possitve feed back guys....glad to try and help out.

Pman allowed me to put this great tip on my web pages, so from now you will able to get to it every time you want it from there.
If you have some useful tip, I will put it there too.

Thanx Pman!

you know for real cars, the "rubbers", some of the things don't really shine and stuff. You know, for like the window trim and stuff. So wouldn't a flat black look better or more realistic? I'm not sure, just a suggestion...

I think that best color is semi gloss black.

WOW

you guys should get Tamiya Masking TAPE!!
it's just amazing for modelling masking..

the bigger generic stuff that we all have doesn't work very well, the edges don't seal good and paint usually slides under.. i think those masking tapes were designed more for household uses, than modelling.

GET TAMIYA TAPE 10MM is good.

Well, depends on the kit. You could just remove the brakes but u need to get axles to attach the rims, possible even drill a hold through the suspension pieces, also u might need to grind the suspension pieces for better fitment. For brakes, u can use the one's that either comes with the fujimi or Aoshima rims, or from a model car kit. Hope this helps
