My '96 Neo started losing its paint in sheets from the trunk lid, rear quarters. The original color was a light purple. I immediately noticed other neos of the same color with similar paint problems. Heres another caveat: there was a "silent recall" on head gasket replacement on this vehicle. It pays (we pay) to be informed.

Yep, the 95-98 neons suffer from the bad headgasket.

i never knew about the blue neons with peeling problems, I do know that my car when it was white it peeled horribly you no a paint jobs shot when you dont have to sand and you can just take a plastic scraper and scrape it off..

I said the 98's have the HG problem also. The MLS HG wasn't in production until September of 1998 (part of the '99 m/y), with the DOHC following shortly after that. So only some of the 99's got them.
