Actually there are. I learned that when I was there in June. Not the man-eating kind, though.

Especially not the jump-out-of-the-water-to-eat-people kind. :hehehe:

Yes, sharks can jump out of the water like that. Just logon to www.discovery.com and see for yourself
I haven't checked the link yet but I doubt they can leap that high out of the water.

I too noticed it was SF, that area is known as the red triangle (or something triangle..) and lots of shark attacks happen there.

some of you guys aint been watchin Discovery channel. Just yesterday they had the show wit hthe great whites jumping out of the water.

You see, the great white is a big animal, and is not very maneuverable, but can build tremendous straight line speed. They will be at the bottom, waiting for something near the surface. When they sppot something that looks similar to food, they shoot as fast as they can, straight for it, and hence, straight up.
Discovery showed a seal about 30 feet from a boat, and out of nowhere, a great white came flying about 10 feet up out of the water, lifting the seal in to the air with its mouth. The shark fell back down on it's side.
No shit man. After seeing that show, I'm not sure about going deep sea fishing unless it's a damn big boat.

Looking back at the pic at top here, I say it's fake, because the shark is at about a 45 degree angle.... From my new expertise as a marine biologist (thanks to discovery channel) he should be almost straight up.

Another valuable lesson from the Dr.!:hehe::hehe:

I saw it on the discovery channel too...

I think its fake... That would be a huge shark cause thats a pretty large chopper...

I thought Discovery was Only in Canada? Or is that TLC? Discovery Channel is amazing for that stuff though, it's a School in Channel-form. I say it's fake cause the guy dosen't look concerned and the pilot dosen't seem to notice the 20+ foot Shark behind him even though he's looking there. Wasn't there also something about most Shark Attcks occuring in Shallow Water?

This is a good point. If it was a real picture, the guy on the ladder would have a big ol' lump in the back of his pants! LOL!

it's definitely fake, but it's the coolest fake i've ever seen. in some magazine they have an add for discovery where they show sharks jumping out of the water and they get some height!
