Re: turbo Decision

why you lean twords the internal gate? isnt external better? I think i'm going to go with the 50 trim, and DNP's 16G External Dump manifold/o2 combo, and tial 38mm Waste gate. sound good? this should cover my power goals, and also, give me a little room for error... (hopefully none, but I am only human) Please people, i have to get $2K @ $7.50 an hour, starting from $400, so keep voiting and taking here, I really REALLY would like the get the best setup i can. Also, keven, what do you think about this specific set up? I will be running DSMlink, with FIC 950cc's and 93 oct. gas...

Re: turbo Decision

You want to be externally gated. It will make your life much easier.

Re: turbo Decision

Search for it under Kevin's name, I remember him going over this. I dont exactly remember why, but he said go manifold dump.

Re: turbo Decision

It's best to attach the WG to close to the flange where all of the runners come together. If you cant do that a lot of people gate the #1 runner.

Re: turbo Decision

Yes, I prefer the manifold dump. The o2 dump setups work, but the exhaust has to still take the torturous stock path to the gate raising the minimum boost you can run. It may still be below what you need to run, but on large turbos it can be a problem. Even on GT35R sized turbos my 38mm gate venting the colector could hold 13 psi (spring pressure) to redline. Might have even worked for the T67, but I went to a 20 psi spring. The angle at which you attach the WG is also important. My SFP manifold runs the WG off the front of the collector, so all four runners give the exhaust a straight shot from the head port to the WG valve.

The only real advantage I see to the O2 mounted setups is ease of returning the WG exhaust to into the main exhaust. Noise concerns are perfectly valid, and if this is an issue O2 mounted is the way to go.
