most likely lifter tick.

but if you want to double check, then you have teh process. simply turn teh crankshaft.

Thanks for the replies Stealthee and Linebckr. I'll have to check again when it stops raining. Just a little confused though so umm...isn't the lifter tick supposed to "tick" as opposed to crackle?

Sorry to bring this thread back up but no body ever answered my question...lifter tick is supposed to tick, not crackle right? And it's supposed to keep ticking on and on right? Because my car only crackles in the morning and that's it.

I was also wondering...how can you tell if your valves are bent? That's usually what happens if your timing belt fails, right? I mean, if it snaps or one of the pulleys mess up or something...
