Re: friend is buying an 01 WS6

well since no one can decide between the v6 and ls1, just tell him to get a lt1, They have some power and mod well, but are not as fast as an ls1 stock.

HAHA good one.....my LT1 has 10 less HP stock (315, it's a 97 formula WS.6) than an 02 TA WS6 (325), so that's not really a valid statement I guess a Z28 or regular formy would only have 275 horse though..........still, and LT1 is still a really good kick from the factory....

You are right....that is a good one.
Your statement anyways.

Nothing against the LT1....but you aren't within 40 RWHP of a stock LS1 with your stock LT1. Ratings aren't everything.
Remember...these numbers are supposed to be flywheel ratings...

The LT1 car is correctly rated at the flywheel. The LS1 car is not.
The LS1 WS.6 puts down to the wheels just short of its ratings.
The LT1 car will make roughly 260-270 RWHP while the LS1 car will put down 305-310 RWHP. At least stock for stock.

Trust me, I have nothing against the LT1. Mean, mean motor. But it ain't no LS1.

hi Luos..

l heard that LS1 cars were underrated.. so a 02 ws6 rated 325 hp. what is dyno numbers?? 350hp? 340hp?

also, some guys wree talking about on another forum.. they say regular LS1 trans am and ws6 LS1 trans am puts the same hp. on dyno.. is that correct?

Re: friend is buying an 01 WS6

At the rear tires, most LS1 cars are very similiar.
The WS.6 hood/airbox doesn't help unless moving forward.
The LS1 was underrated with a 310-325 HP rating. Most of them make right around 350-360 flywheel power, which is what the LT1 was rated at.
GM did that so the F-Body wasn't rated the same as the Corvette.

Re: friend is buying an 01 WS6

At that age I was driving a Datsun 280zx and I floored it everywhere I went. Until I wrecked it in someone's front yard. And I'm responsible! Imagine what I would have done with an LS1??? I don't think that should be a good first car for a teenager. With power like that, and teenager's need to impress the peers, it spells trouble. Even if he's cool, the temptation is a killer.
Go with a sweet v6 for now. If he's responsible enough, in a few years he'll be able to trade up. Plus, girls aren't going to know the difference, and that's what should be important to a 16 year old.
My dad had a run down 78 T/A with a 400 in it when I was that age. I'm glad it wasn't running at that time. I'd have torn it up and trashed it.
I test drove a v6 Firebird when I was about 20. It was plenty quick and fun, and even at that age, I still did a bunch of 360s in an empty parking lot before I took it back to the dealership.
Stupid immaturity and testosterone.
