I don't know where you are from, but around here, you can find SIs for cheaper than 5 thousand. Most will have about 160k on them though, at least.

I've seen a VTEC prelude go for 3500 in Louisiana. I talked to the guy about his can, and he said nothing at all was wrong with it. He did the swap, and wanted to sell. Had nice rims as well. Just keep looking, and don't be afraid to travel 500-1000 miles to find your right car.

yea i just recently got mine at an auction whooooo yay for me...anyway my dad did everything and the best part was that he picked the car as a compromise between my integra and his corolla...haha so anyway im not complaining at all...but anyway i got a good price....ill try post a pick but mine came as a stick with front axle broke and 2 missing front corner lights and both airbags deployed.....and the car had about 75000-76000 miles on it....and we got it for i think 3000-3500 and it came with chrome rimes, and as far as we can tell it was kept in great condition with the oil being changed and all....and after getting all the parts and painting over some minor scratches plus fixing costs it came out to i think a little under 5000 bucks which i think is a great price, so i think if you have the time to look into this stuff there are good deals to be had, mine is a prelude s manual btw.... k hope this helps(i know, im not selling my prelude but just thought you should know)

You didn't say 1996. I still wouldn't pay that much for 130HP, and an OBDII to boot, but that's just me.

for under $5k it would be very rare to find a 4th gen without something wrong with it, air bags deployed, salvage title.

I did, my car was totalled at 11k. Everything is perfect right now. Haven't seen anything wrong with it since. I don't even know why it was totalled. There's no aparent frame damage. Cars drives straighter than anything I've driven before.

Check and see. I'd also go look for that car on http://www.autotrader.com, and see what they are going for around your area.

i dont think their is anything wrong with buying a car with a salvage title just be sure you see it first because some cars are seriously totalled with non-repairable frame damage, but other cars seem to have just a small dent on their trunk and still are classified as a salvage so its really hard to summarize whether its safe or not and im sure they vary by state as well just be ready to pay about 500-700 dollars for all the change of titles and stuff after you get that car, but from TN, getting a salvaged car outside of TN might be kind of hard since you gotta ship it and all.

Don't pay that much to change titles over. Have them write you two bills of sale. One for like 1000 dollars, and one for the actual amount. This way you can show the DOL the 1000 dollar bill of sale, and get your tax reduced, and keep the actual one just in case. This works especially well with salvage titles because they wont question why the car sold for so little.
