Unhappy Sorry it is a Gas Guzzler

I have had approx 270 - 290 miles per tank of gas on my Super Charged X. I approximate 14.8 mpg no matter how slow I drive it gets about the same. I only have 1100 miles and I have filled up ony about 4 times I think. But if your used to Honda mileage, your in for a shock.

Good luck,

Yup, cars DO get better gas milage :-)

The family kept the truck and the tent trailer connected to to it while they stayed on the beach in Santa Barbara for an extra week...

I rented a Oldmibile Alero from Santa Barbara for the trip home to SF.

Yeah sure it was a rocket :-)

But it felt like my balls were scraping the pavement all the way home and I could not see very well out of it because I am a tall person and I felt like I was driving a fish bowl (low, untinted windows)

The 11 gallons of gas it took to make the ~320 mile trip was a surprise
considering the velocity it was travelling at...

The bottom line though is that I'm a truck guy.

I'd have traded that puppy back without a single thought if I could have driven the truck home.

Sure it goes fast, handles great, gets good gas milage, but I felt like a 'victem' the whole trip.

My truck has everything I need for most any situation...the car was...well a car.

I also had an Alero as a rental car during one of my stints out in TX last year - in fact, in back-to-back trips, I got the 4-cyl and then the 6-cyl versions. I commented to the SWXC guys when I met up with some of them for a dinner that I almost lost control of the 6-cyl when I was merging onto the freeway because of the incredible amount of torque steer. I hadn't driven a FWD car with that much punch (I know, it's all relative) in probably a decade and certainly not one with that much torque steer.

I also had an Eclipse Spyder for a rental, too (funny thing is, I had that one when I met up with the SWXC crew again), and that was pretty fun to buzz around in, but like you, I'd rather have been driving my truck. I was self-conscious everytime I pulled up to a stoplight in the Spyder because it seemed like there was always some ricer next to me wanting to race. Sheesh.

Consider this

I live in Southern Arizona, where it's hotter'n'hell right now. It's 105 degrees F today!! This and the fact that they add ethanol or ether (or somethiong like that) to the gas in summer, seems to screw up everyones car. Every stoplight you hear cars new and old pinging like crazy. I've switched to 91 octane to alleviate the problem with good results.

I just got my new 2002 SE V6 S/C a few weeks ago, and having switched over from a Honda, the poor gas mileage is killing me!

Its the same thing with me. I am getting about 270 a Tank in my 2002 V6 Non Supercharged. Is there anything we can do to get it more aero dynamics? I am changeing my filter to K & N for starters.

When you read that sticker on the side of the truck that said 15-19 MPG, that should have been an indication to you that the gas mileage was poor.

Angry

The sticker shouldn't say 13 - 19 mpg. It should be a little more realistic and say 10 - 13 mpg and that's all downhill driving. I guess the S/C models and non-S/C models are getting about the same MPG per tank. The only difference is the $4.00 more per fill up. Luckily I work within 10 miles of my home so it not that big of a deal. Besides, I like stoping to fill up-it gives me a chance to admire my X from the outside. :sun:

270 / 16 Gallons(approximately what is consumed when gas light comes on = 16.875. That is pretty close to what I would expect combined city/hwy driving.

With combined city/highway travel I'm getting around 19 mpg. I don't have the roof rack air dam or basket on my Xterra, that might make a difference.

What have you all seen as an average total mileage from a full tank of gas? Am I just going to have to succomb to the fact that the mileage in the Xterra sucks, or is there anything I can do to make it better? Help!
my 2002 sucked the gas when i first got it. now with 10k it gets about 17 maybe 18 with a mix of city and country driving, and i live in the mile high city denver also. thats the way it goes. i run 85 octane and everything seems fine so far. i noticed if i run the AC alot i lose about 1 to 1.5 mpg. i get about 300 to 325 miles per tank on average. :silly2:
