Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

i guess in this case it is the driver? you must be really good at driving stick shift if your beating up 2.0l's with your 1.8... but hey anything can happen

i cant believe you have never said to your friends "last one there buys". thats all it is, not rally, just sprint racing, mostly from louisa to ashland, or huntington.<between 26 to 45 miles. and yes i can personally tell you the 1.8 does go past 100, i buried the needle at 145. < it took me a while though. and how can you liken the crx "matchbox deathtrap" to the laser. the laser has at least 300lbs on it, and the crx had a much better motor on top of that. (and yes i discovered from the last owner> friend o my brothers, he put some kind of cam into it and advanced the timing.)

My crx had a 1.5L SOHC 12 valve pushing maybe 90hp I wouldnt call that a much better motor

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

if you are refering to your 95 i couldnt tell you much about the power train on it and why you could barely and i got mine there < i had it before i was into cars. if i had a picture ild show you but i dont. i mean if you use the "every little bit helps" theory, my laser was more aerodynamic, sat lower, ALOT LIGHTER, mostly i guess it deals with power to weight. and a rear dif, driveshaft, and the awd tranny was much heavier, then just the 2.0 fwd. (even if you do have some more power, the weight might be whats killing you). not to mention as i said >it had some mods to it that i didnt know, but ill have to ask some friends if they have had thiers to 145, as far as i know all they have done is cold air, and cat back.

We know bullshit when we hear it. NO WAY did your 1.8 do 145 mph. Never. Not even if it was modded. Your talking to the wrong group of people, we arn't stupid.

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

Close the thread... while the needle at 145 doesn't mean you were actually going that fast to begin with, you're under the impression you were. And the bullshit meter is off the chart

IMO:
Pointless threads sometimes should be closed.
Smack talk threads usually should be closed.
Misinformation threads should all be closed.

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

it could be possible that the 1.8l beat a 2.0 tho, me and my one buddy both have 2nd gen eclipse's non turbo, mine being a spyder lightly modded and his a 420a lightly modded, the 420a ran a 18.1 in the 1/4mile and i ran a 17.7. both of us being automatics, so who knows

It's impossible to take him seriously when he makes the claims that he has.

Well unless you can post the time of a 1.8 then those times really mean nothing. I ran a 17.xx the first time I ever ran my 1g 2.0NT, and you're running that on a spyder with a 2.4? I didn't think the automatic tranny made that big of a difference.

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

hey im not saying you have to believe me. i did it, thats good enough for me. but as i said it took a damn long time to get there, it didnt pull right there like you are obviously thinking.. it took me at least 1.5 minutes to get from 100 to 145.
remember this was open straight highway, and i had plenty of length

try it. do an honest test (if you got a 1.8 90 model, i dont care if its stock or not, but mine wasnt). and see how fast it goes. post your results, then ill be wrong. but prove it. pereferably with a pic.

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

My friend has a 93ish eclipse gs 1.8 and his stopped going around 95 so its hard to believe that you were going another 50 mph faster than that stock or not

Re: what made the gen1 1.8 so peppy?

wait, im pretty sure around 92? and up maybe starting 93 they had limiters in them(gen 1's never had them). just like my zx2 its limited for 119 mph, i got plenty of gear, but it bogs back out. or there is something horribly wrong with that motor. ive seen metros go faster. in fact after the head blew on my laser (now tell me you didnt see that one coming) i was pissen around with a metro and he went 110 right with me. i stopped cuz im tired of getting pulled over. but i can swear to you that it did it. but i think it was on all cars in the early (like 92and up) they started puting those limiters in there. a frien of mine has a mistique and its limited to 95 < and for a long time that was the standard.

but for the sake of asking did it stop like it hit a limiter, or did it just not have the power?
