They need everything they can get in Cali to be different. Pure unadulterated JDM-style ricerization to look "cool". Get in the right mindset (open the carb on the bong and take a deep breath ) and you'll understand perfectly

There was a guy at school when I was out there w/a Rabbit PU sporting a BMW kidney grille. Almost looked authentic

Then there was the time a guy was driving a clapped-out early 70's GM "clamshell" wagon that he replaced the fake vinyl wood with fake vinyl bricks

Re: Complete: EK Civic. Put this in your martini.

Alvin, there are a lot of cars this color, or similar shades of green. When I build models, I try to pick a median of style, and the red EG and the green EK are pretty indicative of the Honda tuning movement right now - slammed more than they should be, simple but eye catching colors, and pretty capable drivers. That's the idea, at least.

MeanB16 - I will hate cross drilled rotors until I die because they crack, and that's not good for anyone. Even the nice ones with the holes cast in crack under use. If it's a track car and you can replace the rotors every weekend, game on. If not, slotted or dimpled are more reliable, and really, they're all sorta silly. I also didn't want to paint the sideskirts and lip the same. Remember, 96-00 hatches were only sold here as DX or CX, and they came with black sills, license plate surrounds, rub strips, mirrors and door handles. I figured when this guy got his painted, he left the sills and the plate surround in black plastic... 'cause he liked it that way (I like it that way, too).

Voyager - the soda machins is scratched. I made it because during the IP thread for the red car, someone said it looked not red, but Slice Orange. So I built it before I photo'd it, as a joke. It makes for a good background detail though. I don't like panel lines - if you look at a model, it appears the same size as a car 25 or 50 or whatever yards away - can you see panel lines on a 1:1 that's that far away? Not really. So I don't paint them in.

CADguy - legally, it should have California tags both sides. But I guess he's showing it off and wants it to look mad JDM tyte, yo!!! >_<

Thanks everybody for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I guess I'm alright at this whole modeling thing if I get such positive response for a quickie (not that it wasn't work; I stripped and repainted this thing 3 times!). Sorry the pictures aren't really in focus, I don't know what the deal was. Fortunately, I've got that backdrop to fool you.

Thanks again, for the kind words and the crits! The car has its faults, and I can account only for a few of them.

Re: Complete: EK Civic. Put this in your martini.

Neatly looking, pal!

Colour is nice and different, It sure stands out!

Although, i m not supersure about the comment on panellines, i believe it might just look a little bit more real is to apply them before the last coat of colour paint (got that tip from veyron, that bastage prolly stole that idea from somebody else tho )

A refreshingly simple, yet intoxicatingly clean, inebriatingly smooth befuddled build. Leaves me tanked, soused, pickled and stewed for making one of those civics myself.

Oli

Will, I always saw those shades of green as JDM -only paint colors...kinda like that pale green you see on S13 Silvia's. Oh well I am no Honda expert. I do know this much...that little red EG has so much more character and it will always be #1 in my book

You are correct, that bastage Veyron stole the black panel lines under last color coat idea from me, but he keeps forgetting to do those panel lines like that all the time and he has to do them w/an acrylic wash

We steal from each other ruthlessly

That's cool man, I love the fact that you are always confident and well thought out with your builds. and yeah I know exactly what you mean about the rotors, I've found actually track use makes them crack alot quicker due to the extreme amount of braking, I have been lucky enough to never crack any of my power stop X-drilled rotors and on a REX like mine I could just use ITR brakes and stock ITR rotors to have enough stopping power to face plant you into the dash. (Brakes are one of the most in-depth topics of disscussion for sure)

Anyway I love seeing quality Hondas or any other car for that matter that are different than what I would have built but still has great quality, your builds always please me.
