Well perhaps I'm not so lucky after all. While taking off from a red light today, something let go in my Blazer. It started making an extremely loud banging noise, and the whole thing jumps when it does it. It's definitely something in the drive train. I limped it into a gas station and had someone come pick me up. Luckily I know a guy with a roll back, he's going to go pick it up later this afternoon (free of charge) and bring it home. I suspect that the rear end took a shit, but won't know for sure until it gets home and I tear into it.

As for all the requests for the balljoint how-to.... I'll see what I can do, but as for now, that work has been put on hold.

Ahh sounds like some of the luck I am having. I still have not figured out exactly what is wrong with mine but I know its something internal in the engine. Knocking noise, no power loss at all, just noisy as heck. Since its fairly warm here today I am going to pull off valve covers and look in there today.

Re: Sweet Deal

I found another rear end. It's a G80 with disc brakes just like my old one. I went and picked it up today. ($550 with a 6 month warranty) I pulled the old one and and have got the new one in. I've got to finish the brake lines and brakes. I have to install the driveshaft, but I'm going to go ahead and put in new U-joints first. After putting the new one in, I decided to call it a day, it's a pain in the ass to change on out by yourself. Took me a little over four hours to get this far. When I get a chance I take some pictures of the old one. The ring and pinion gears are shattered.

Yes, please do post some photos, would love to see it. I went through that whole deal last year in my Camaro.

Re: Sweet Deal

Hopefully, I can post them tomorrow night. My digital camera is messed up, so I'll have to shoot a quick vid with my camcorder and extract the images.

Re: Sweet Deal/Trashed Rearend

Wow that really does look bad. When mine went out on the camaro they didn't even look that bad and I had it hammered tires burning when it went.
