Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

I now officially hate cops, though I studied to be one. I swear the department hires a plethora of assholes that are just itching to be bullies with badges. I've gotten 3 no front license plate tickets within a 6 month duration. The speeding ticket was all my fault, but they have far better things to do in Los Angeles then bust me with a no front license plate ticket, like maybe busting the bums that stop traffic panhandling for money.

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

i ahven't been pulled over yet....even tho my windows are 5% and ive been next to police cars plenty times, yet no fine. the cops round me really don't care what you do as long as you don't have a bad looking civic with a big wing and exhaust. it seems to me that they are pretty much busy from pulling over people for drugs in my area...

but i have yet to see an import pulled over where i live, all the broke people round my neighborhood drive domestics and ones that are falling apart

even though the cops come and scare the racers away, if they see them in public, they could care less. i swear a couple opf years agoi, this blown vette with a roll bar and this i think it was a chevelle, brown, n e ways, they raced every day in the summer at 415, over 1/2 mile street with no traffic right by my house.....i have yet to see one of them be pulled over

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

i drove a car without a front plate for a long time, it was a pile of shit too. my brother has been driving his dsm without a front plate for a long time, neither of us have had a single problem. hes had a louder exhaust since his turbo went in and still hasnt had a problem. thing is, just dont be revvin it while goin past the cops, and i dont think theyll care.

Front plates? some cars dont even have a place for plates on the front. what do you need front plates for anyway? do they think your going to be driving away from the cops backwards?

Not true. I got more stupid little tickets in one year driving my 944 than ever.

I think one reason for it is so we can park in parking spots backwards. I friend of mine lived in FL about 5-7 years ago and she said you couldn't park backwards down there because they didn't require plates in the front. In IL you're suppose to have plates on the front of all autos but it's very very easy to get out of those tickets.

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

In PA there is no rule about parking backwards that I am aware of. In MD I have lots of friends that don't put the front plate on even though its required and I have never heard anything about them being ticketed.

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

in michigan you cant park backwards, i wasnt aware that you could do that in other states. I always thought it was so that when you were pulling out you didnt have to cross 2 lanes of traffic, just one. . .

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

in Minnesota and Wisconsin, you can park backwards, but you need 2 license plate, and in Minnesota, you need 2 license plate no matter what or you will be ticketed, and if you dont have insurance on the car you will be TOWED, it happened to my instructor because he was from Illinois and didn't know

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

It's usually not a big deal in IL unless you're in the suburbs or in the city. Out by me if they pull you over without front plates you just gotta make sure you have the plate inside the car and tell the cop that it fell off and you just have to put it back on once you find the right screws or you can even call the DMV and tell them you lost your front plate and they'll give you some sort of a reciept that you can show the cop for it and it's good for around 6 months or so.

Re: Do you think import tuners get unfairly profiled by police?

I've got a good story. Yesterday me and my buddy were eating at McDonald's and two other guys we know walked in. They got their food and sat down with us. We were talking about setting up a few races for next saturday night (94 Eclipse vs. 93 Civic, 82 Cutlass vs. 92 240sx) and all of a sudden these two older guys turn around in the both behind us and inform us that if we swear one more time there was going to be a problem. We blew them off and finished our conversation. Me and my friend got up and told the other two to meet us at the shop in fifteen minutes so they could listen to the 383 when we broke it in. So we left and they followed shortly afterword. Before they left they had to badasses though and yelled some profanities as they walked out. Turns out these older guys did have a problem "punk ass fouled mouthed street racers" and to add insult to injury they were off-duty cops. Seems kind of funny that the 5-0 would single out two guys in Honda talking about racing when there where at least twenty other people around all of which were having conversations and the languague wasn't exactly clean in some of them.

I don't think necessairly it's "imports" getting pulled over. It's the class of cars that heaps of people modify.

In Aust, it's mainly WRXs, Silvias, Skylines, Nissan powered Holdens plus any other cars with obvious modifications.

Why? Because these are the cars most likely to have had ILLEGAL modifications done to them.

Of course cops profile, they can't search or arrest everyone - they must work with chance.

I understand that side to it, because most normal cops around here will let you off with a warning if you speed a little bit (10% over) or go a bit sideways through a corner.

A normal cop, they just want you to show respect, because it show u respect the law. My friend told me that he was speeding on the motorway and saw a cop go by and do a u-turn. He IMMEDIATELY pulled over BEFORE the cop put the siren on. The cop asked him did he know what speed he was doing. My friend said he didn't know for sure because he was keeping his eyes on the road and that he was sorry if he was going a bit fast (smart answer ). The cop told him to be more careful and then complimented him on his WRX and asked if it pulled hard. (By the way, in my State the highway patrol has 2 STi's...cops love AND hate them for some reason)

But then there are cops who are real assholes. A typical converstaion would go (ones I've heard all too many times)

"You went a bit fast through that corner"
"Sorry sir, I'll slow it down next time"
"Have you been drinking"
"No, sir"
"pop your hood"

That IMO is just fucked up because cops should be doing real police work. Defective cars should get picked up in the registration process...and if not, then the whole thing is a waste of money.

Another story I was told was of two guys driving at 3am in the morning side by side in a 2 lane road with absolutely no one around. A cop pulled them over and after finding nothing to defect, fined the guy in the right lane for not keeping left unless overtaking.

So in short, I don't think they get UNFAIRLY profiled, because all profiling will victimise the innocent of that class of people. But tuners definitely get picked on more by asshole police.
