Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
noonononononnonononoo
you take your stock airbox off and put the pop charger on the end of the tube. itll fit trust me the pop charger is better than a normal filter because of the velocity stack under the filter element. its like the APEX'i power filter. they both have the same basic design. the velocity stack helps the air flow smoother and more evenly, meaning less intake resistance. ive seen dyno numbers where an AEM CAI with AEM filter is used, then a pop charger is stuck on the end of the CAI tube and it gains like 3 or 4 hp. if you want a CAI, just remove the tire, remove the fenderwell plastic cover, and its just right there. not too hard at all its almost worth it to get even a short ram tube to replace the stock tube because of all the irregularities in the stock tubing cause air turbulence and restriction

Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
i know its not hard, i just don't like the sound of the airbox and its performance. but i see a big difference when i WOT in the cold.. im starting to want it...

Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
The airbox only silences the sound if it's a complete box. Taking off the top of it will totally nullify the silencer effect. I'd suggest just getting a short-ram/pop charger, and rest the filter in the lower half of the box. Then you'll have the good filter design, good sound, and the stock plastic tubing below the airbox will still deliver cool air straight to the pop charger's filter thru the hole in the bottom of the box.

Re: Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
Ok, Since i have an 06 sentra SE... Where can i get a short ram to install the JWT popcharger? Since the stock tubes have restrictions, etc. And also, Once i get the CAI tubing, ill connect the popcharger at the end of the short ram, and then leave 1/2 of the plastic air box on, so that the cold air from the right fender wall is still doing it's job>?
Is that best for HP and sound... over a CAI ? ? ? |

get a cone filter, heat shield. and the MAF sensor adaptor(any kind but plastic). (I don't no about urs, but when I got the adaptor, the holes for the MAF sensor were way off, but don't worry, just drill new holes, it'll work just fine) buy the cold air intake tube for the 99 civic from the auto zone, the tube is made of aliumum, about 3 ft long with 45 degree angle. and it's actually too long, but the angle is perfect, so cut about 2 inch off. then, loose the battery holder, move it to the left as far as possible. (I mean, just push it, but the battery still stay in the base.) now u see, u can install the filter right behind ur driver side headlight, which is right next to the battery. and the heat shield is not really to prevent heat, it's preventing rain, water from wetting ur filter. it's not really a CAI system, but it's pretty far away from the heat, and it's very very close to the hole where cold air coming from the bumper. u'll c when u take ur intake box out. in pep boys, they sell those custom CAI tubes, with all different angle and length so u can build ur own. Don't every waste ur money on those, they r made of plastic, I can break them easily with just two fingers. anyway, whatever u do, there's still restriction around the throttle....and there's not much we can do about it.

Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
anything made for a civic should not be put on our cars
plus i think the civic CAI, or at least the ones ive seen, have smaller intake tubing, AEM's is a 3 inch tube. you should know that installing a true CAI also means shaving the inside of your fender to make the pipe fit through the hole that is there, and dont listen to any garbage about sucking up water, you have to completely submerge the filter in water to ingest anything, not splash it with a puddle

I don't really care which car its made for. but like I said, that's not a real CAI. about the water, I'm not really worry about sucking water. however, if u let the rain wet ur filter, it creates moisture - BAD for the performance. and if more than 70% of filter is wet, it won't even start. (I don't no if it will still running if the engine was on..... but it happened when I washed my filter and didn't allow enough time to dry, install it, won't start. I though I screw up, but it's just a wet filter)

Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
sounds like im going to do that today...imma look into it and see about how much it'll cost. btw, what does it take to remove about '2 from the civic CAI tube, a steel saw?

Re: JWT popcharger or CAI?
yeah just use a hacksaw.
and there are probably a couple breather hoses that plug into your stock tube. you have to punch holes in the rubber connectors of the new intake and plug them into there. and plug up the civic plug holes in the tube if you dont use them

On that tube, there's a hole for the temp sensor, but it's somewhat too small, so I just drill it, trim it, make it bigger then it fits perfect. I just checked the box, it's not just for civic, it also fits for accord and integra, and here's how much I spent: $39.99 for the tube $6.99 for the MAF sensor adaptor $8.99 for the heat shield I forgot how much the AEM filter was.....bought it long time ago. that's pretty much it

bang for buck nothing can beat a custom short ram. or even if you want to get more pipe and rout it to the fender for a custom cold air. popcharger from JWT and the APEX'i power filter are both based on the same design and work very well on any performance intake tube. while the JWT has the velocity stack on the bottom, the apexi filter smooths the airflow coming in with a funnel top part, achieving most of the same efficiency ![]()
