i'm running a crvtec in my 91 4door civic. mad mad mad power. type r is waaaaaaaaaay overpriced, not worth it at all. gsr is good but not crvtec good. people think its not reliable, but i know 7 people with it and they run them to hell every weekend some are running nos through it. and they are going on 2 1/2 years with crvtec. this setup is nice you will not be dissapointed.

he says the b18c-r, which is the type r motor, is 5 grand. he wasn't talking about the b18c1, which is the gsr motor.

i say screw getting the CRV block, and running the oil line, and all that crap. just get a GSR, get the block bored and resleeved for 2 liters, put a forged rotating assembly in it, and go. the GSR block has oil squirters and a block girdle. the CRV block doesnt. yeah i know the GSR has floating wall cylinders and all that, but its getting sleeved remember? the CRV block also has that special coating on the cylinder walls, and although i havent rebuilt one, ive been told that the block cannot be honed, and i know the coating cant possibly be as strong as a sleeved block.
even better, find a GSR block from someone who did the CRVTEC setup, and buy a b16a1 head (gotta swap sensors depending on OBD). do the above building of the block, put the b16 head on it, with a skunk2 valvetrain, some porting and polishing, and skunk2 intake manifold, and VIOLA!!! you have a 2 liter hypeR.

I would much rather go with the b18c over the cr-vtec. My reasoning is the GSR motor is much stronger bottom end. To build a good b20 you need to use the GSR bottom end. Plus the b20 cylinder walls are weak. I have heard so that so many people have had problems with sleeved b20 not being able to handle high compression. So if a sleeved motor can;t handle the compression or boost and you have to spend the money to sleeve it you are right up to the price of a GSR motor. So the price is not something to compare the two. The GSR motor IS the best motor honda has ever built. It has all the things that everyone wants. Oil squirters, crank girdle what more could you want. I have done a lot of research on this desicion and that is why i have just recently started to build my all-motor B18C1.
