I share an apartment with one roommate. It's my TV, but it's in the livingroom. My bitch isn't with not being able to watch what I want because of a TV being occupied, it's with the fact that what I want to watch is usually being preempted by Football. Baseball I don't care so much about, because it's usually only on cable channels, and my hassle about this past Sunday was due more to the fact that instead of showing the normal programming (The Simpsons) they instead chose to broadcast Joe Buck prattling on about the rain and otherwise standing there with his thumb up his ass, alternating with footage of guys rolling tarp out over the field. I ended up going to bed at 11 that night and the game was still on -- I don't know if they even played any Sunday night shows. But again, the baseball thing doesn't really concern me, because the postseason is winding down anyways. Hence, the focus more on Football, whose presence dominates everything that is Broadcast TV on Sunday, and annoys the crap out of me more on principle alone (since I don't usually spend my day on Sunday sitting on my ass on the couch and drinking beer.) 12 hours and multiple channels worth of pissy coaches hooting and hollering and pushing people around over a couple yards, grab-ass, and a bunch of guys charging each other repeatedly doesn't really do it for me. And then there's Monday night, and the sheer brilliance that is John Madden:

-Random Commentator: "So John, what's your take on this situation, what can they do to get out of this one?"
-John Madden: "Well, what they're gonna want to do here, is complete some passes and get some first downs."

Whoa. I thank you for that truly insightful comment, Mr. Madden. Got any more strategy for us, Einstein?

-Random Commentator: "Now let's go back to Howie and the gang at the desk. Gentlemen? Have they devised a way for you to not only live and breathe Football, but inject it intravenously as well?"

Once many years ago, a friend of mine's stepfather was telling us about his college Football days, and how he was a Tight End. My friend immediately commented that by the time he left Football, he was a Wide Receiver.

The majority of the guys I know are big into watching professional sports and they act like it's the most important thing in the world to them. It's the first thing they look at when picking up a newspaper or logging on to web news, and the main topic of conversation the day after a "big game". Speaking of, isn't it funny how so many games are "big" or "must win" games? Ha ha, give me a break, but it's not really that important. The worst case fans even make fantasy teams to play against other peoples fantasy teams! What? I think some people need to get a life. This obsessive fascination with professional sports is the reason it cost so much to go to a "game", and athletes can demand so much money.

What's a persons connection to "their" team anyways? They usually don't know anyone on it personally, and most of the players aren't even from their town. To top it off the players and managers get traded every few years so it's no longer even the same team! Still for these fans, when their team wins it's as if they themselves actually did something.

While I could never consider myself a sports fan, (fan is short for fanatic) I do sometimes enjoy watching the World Series. It doesn't really matter who's in it or who wins, but the drama and good plays make it worthwhile. Nothing beats a game 7 tied in the 9th! When the Superbowl is on I go grocery shopping. The store is empty.

Re: It NEVER ENDS!!

It doesn't matter if your TV is in the living room, its YOUR TV. But be careful. He just might not let you use something of his because you want to watch TV for half an hour. There are assholes like that.

However, you were being insulting. Just because people love sports, doesn't mean you need to be an ass about it. And...when you said 'Does anyone even care about the World Series' (or something similar to that), I about laughed my head off. Do you know how many people are following that? Even if they aren't die hard fans...I would guess 90% of the people in the US are rooting for one of the teams.

I agree with you to some point. I don't see how people can base their entire life on a sport...but, atleast I'm not a jerk about it. They have different opinions, and I respect that.

Re: It NEVER ENDS!!

I wonder why sports take over airtime from shows like The simpsons and other sunday(and monday for football) tv shows. Oh yeah, RATINGS.

Does anyone even care about The Simpsons? Why would you want to waste half an hour of your life watching something that isnt even real? Im sure you can wake up early on saturday and there will be some mindless cartoons on for you. I mean hell you could just wait until they came out on DVD and watch them ALL DAY EVERYDAY.

Oooo! Methinks I hit a nerve with the sports fanboys. Well

Whatever. You guys have your locker room antics, ass pats, and John Madden. And that's fine by me -- you can have it!

Cartoons own. Hours upon hours of competitive sports is dumb. Am I angering you yet?

Perhaps I was hasty, as there are obviously (somewhere out there) people rooting for one of the World Series teams. 9 people out of 10 though? meh...

Re: It NEVER ENDS!!

No, you can keep john madden....dont get me wrong i like sports but john madden is the dumbest announcer ever. He says the most obvious shit all the time, people who dont even know football could figure out the shit he gets paid to tell people.

I can just come back with, hours upon hours of mindless fiction based drawings are dumb.
