Lovely build, saw something similar on TV recently.
Can't understand the open roof, was the same on TV.

The open top is so the driver can stick his head out the top of such a low chop? I don't think there'd be room otherwise, and it's not like the interior is leather or anything and needs to be protected....

Awesome.... It's one of your best ratrods. I love the decal on the door, it's a great touch and sets off the whole model.

Did you read anywhere on the box that said chopped top, channeled body, Z'ed frame, no door panels, no roof, or did you read on the box that you have to build exactly whats on the box??? Use you own imagination and build what you want!!!! Hey use you search engine and type in Rat Rod, see what you get then!!!!! Oh yeah, a HOT rod is a bunch of chrome and billet SH*T, do you see any of that on this RAT rod?????? Thanks for the comment...............

have you seen the HOT rods from the 40's and 50's a lot of em were left in primer and were planned to be finished later on when money alowed it to be
and this so called "rat rod" sh*t is making cars look like they did in the early days when they where called HOT rods none of this rat sh*t
some where along the way some one decided that they are now rat rods
(probably the shifters)
as quoted by Verne Hammond from the burbank choppers "it's either a hot rod or a custom and thats it"
hot rods can involve chrome and candy paint or primer and not much else, but there all hot rods so shut up with all this rat rod crap.

...and of course we should all get back and talk Cro-magnonesian, live in caves and hunt Mamuts!?
Seriously, what I'm trying to say is that times are changing. Not to the better all the time and if one is very conservative it's even worse.
Lighten up and go with the flow, it'll be much easier than trying to hold evolution back.
Not only did we come from the caves to where we are now, but we adapted the language to suite our new environment. I for one doesn't care if they call a hot-rod something else, it will still be what's known as "an automobile" of a certain make, model and style.
So with this kind of argument even calling it a hot-rod is wrong as it's infact an automobile and has been so for over one hundred years.

Mumble, mumble, groowl, snarl. (Have a nice day, said in Cro-Magnonesian)
Niclas

I agree, although I don't think that if you called a rat rod a hot rod you would be 100% incorrect. I personally view rat rods as a subcategory of the hot rod, just as I consider pro touring a subcategory of the muscle car. The term rat rod was coined to differentiate between the shiny paint, chromed out hot rods. Sure, back in the 60's they were all hot rods because the word "rat rod" hadn't been created.

Re: Completed: '29 Ford Rat-Rod

Got access to an online dictionary like Wikipedia?

RAT-ROD

Rat rod is a newly developed name for the original hot rod style of the early 1950s. A rat rod is usually a vehicle that has had many of its non-critical parts removed. They are usually finished in primer-like paints and are often period correct. They are very often the conglomeration of parts and pieces of different makes and models.

A typical rat rod is an early 1930s coupe or roadster with the body set low on the frame, fenders removed, whitewall tires, big-little tire combos, exposed engine bay, home-made upholstery, and lots of power.

It has become popular to use the term for a similar treatment on cars from the 1950s and early 1960s as well. These vehicles (known as, Custom cars, Kustoms,Leadsleds or Sleds) were usually not originally high performance vehicles, but usually a large 2-door sedan with a chopped down roofline, lowered suspension, and most of the little trim work removed.

HOT-ROD
Noun

* S: (n) hot rod, hot-rod (a car modified to increase its speed and acceleration)

By its definition ANY car can be a hot rod!
