Re: CLS55 v. E55 v. E60 M5

[quote=DinanM3_S2]So this is my take on this class of cars...

Contrary to what was previously mentioned, I believe that these cars are not the "cars you turn up to night clubs in." If you were looking for that kind of car in this price range, why wouldn't you get a S500 or a new 750Li. Surely those are much nicer cars then these sport sedans; however these cars also aren't the track/performance monsters that you could also find in the 911 Carrera S, Corvette Z06, etc... These cars are a blend of the two ideas. These cars can be great daily drivers, but not as good as the S-Class or the 7-Series, but in exchange for that, the M5, CLS55, and E55 are far more fun and engaging. They aren't as quick as the 911, but they are much bigger, have usable rear seats, and can pass as a daily driver for most people.

Jeremy Clarkson is even buying one.

I hope the navi lady won't drive him mad. any i think is cultural difference. In Thailand 750li is sorta rare but we do have alot of 730li and S500 this make these car normal. (they are basic equipment for the rich here) so turning up at night club with one of these is saying 2 thing. 1)...i only got this car i spend everything i have on it.

2) I nicked by dad's daily drive since he when to the massage palace with the CLS55, E55 or M5..

3) sorry ladys i got no taste all i have at homes are S & 7....

and ofcause many turn up in CLK, Z4, SLK, SL, 911, the 2 lambo, 430, 360 (no body turn up in 355 anymore i think), oh and ofcause SLR. we have an ENZO in Thailand...however is still in showroom....

U kinda see the trend? because we are seriously over loaded with 7 and S...soo ladys kinda err...don't like them...they like something unique...and also there something with girls not liking Japanese car...so people tend to turn up at night club with european sport car. (oh and i hate these bitches who say "oh u drive Japanese car? i don't wanna ride in it..")

I still don't buy it. If you are trying to show off that you can buy an $80,000 car, why would you buy one that looks almost identical to a $45,000 car? The whole point of the M5 and E55 are that they are in fact very subtle sports cars. Besides some minor styling tweaks and different wheels, these cars look the same as their cheaper counterparts. To the untrained eye, these cars don't scream "look at me" like a 911, Corvette, or Viper. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the differenct between a 525i and an M5 if it wern't for the badge.

As for IDrive, after a month or two of using it, most people are fine with it. I admit to not liking it very much either at first, but it really isn't that bad after a while.

Most people (at least in the states) don't look down on large luxury car owners like you claim Thais do. To me, a 7, S, A8, etc. says that the owner just isn't too concerned with going really fast, instead he/she cares about having one of the most comfortable rides on the road, and theres no way im going to hold that against them. Not everyone cares about going fast.
