Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

Step 1: ... put jack under front of car(i usualy put it in the middle right under the engine just make sure its on something that looks solid)

Step 2: put a jack stand on the left and right side of the front... (where u put them depends on you... just find a spot that looks solid and that the jack stand can kind of bite on to or rest in) make sure the jack stand isnt at its highest point.. maybe like half way....

Step 3: put jack under your rear end pumpkin and jack that up as high as high as you want (you can go higher than the front or as high as the jack stands will reach) place jack stands on rear axel or whereever looks solid

Step 4: jack the front end up higher and move the jack stands up to compensate (if your jack doesnt go as high as the stands you can place large pieces of wood under the jack to gain you a few inches)

step 5: buy yourself a creaper

step 6: go to town... buy another case of beer....

Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

Cuda,

When you said don't go all the way up on front jack stands... you mean initially - until you get the rear end up, right??? There's no problem using the jack stands on the top holes is there???

Also... Are 3-3.5 ton stands (17" max or so) gonna give me the heigth I need or should I go get some 6 - 12 ton stands like Luos'???

Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

If you want to have as much room as possible to work i would get a set of small jack stands and a set of large jack stands.... you first jack the car up high enough to get the smaller jack stands under it and supporting... and once the car is the height of the small jack stands then you jack it up high enough to put the large ones under.... either way it will work though weather you use small stands or large ones.... and yes i was just talking about initialy... because you dont want your car on a severe angle otherwise your bumper will be hitting the ground and you wont be able to get the jack under the back

Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

Ahah! And I was worried about the car slipping off the jacks if the angle was too steep.

i'd say of all the steps the last 2 (#5, 6) are the most important though... don't forget em....

If anyone messes up buying a case of beer, they don't deserve to breathe.

And oh yeah... I HAVE a creeper... I've just never gotten my maro off the ground high enough to use it. The one time I tried, I burnt my friggin nose on an exhaust pipe. (Too much beer in me... forgot to let it cool down before sliding under).

Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

Mine has the front wheels on ramps, and the rear end on jackstands underneath where the swaybar connects to the rearend, and under the subframe where the rear control arms bolt in. I had to do it that way because of how low the car sits, i can't even fit a jack under the front.

Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

If you use ramps is clearance an issue???

IE: Can you get a set of like 24" ramps made and drive up them without ruining the rear of your car????

I'd be alot more comfortable with ramps, cause my car has like 3.5" clearance... the piece of crap jack I have barely slips under there to lift it up now. I found a 3.5" jack in a Northern Tool & Equipment catalog that'll go up to 22" - seems like a rare find... Craftsman's only go up to 18"-20" and most have a saddle height of 5"+. Not tool sure what type of handle the Northern Tool jack comes with but the Craftsman has a nice foam padded handle.

Ultimately I'd like to get both ramps and a nice jack, but as the cash flow is down to a trickle, cost is important for the time being.

Oh and... I've never had a car up on a set of ramps... it's not like easy to drive off them is it??? Do they have a lip or something that'll stop you from going over the top???? I can see me dumbass driving right the fuck over them and creating a REAL mess.

Re: okokok... New Jack or Ramps????

yea, there's a lip on the end of the ramps, but it's not enuff to stop you from driving off em, specially if you're going to fast. the best way is to have someone guide you up so you don't drive off the other side, and to make sure you're on them straight. and once you're all the way up,you put the car in neutral and take your foot off the brake and let it settle into place. also, since your car is so low, you'll need to find a set of ramps with extensions.

Something that just looks solid??? Sounds scary.
K-member. Although, some of us can't reach that with a jack, so we have to put up half the car with a jack under the front subframe, then get the jackstand on the k-member, then slide the jack under the front.

This would be why I used ramps on the rears.

My car has safely been sitting on ramps (rear) and jackstands (front) for about a month now. I have been inside it, moved around, nothing has even thought about moving. Jackstands are very safe, although I do always keep the jack in place just in case.
