Re: Topspeed record broken again...

Well, all I have to say about this is that it took 10 years for someone to do it. 10 years of technology advancement and they get what .5 mph per year of technology. Happy we aren't letting these guys design planes, otherwise it would still take weeks to fly from LA to NY LOL!

Funny I could just imangine GM..."Umm I think we need a special key and then we make it run one way then another and then we give it the Nike Air Jordan paint job so Pdiddy will buy one. Ok OK where did you guys put the Crystal holder?"

WAHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHA. I wouldn't own that car longer than it would take to sell it if someone gave it to me. Looks like some kind of nightmarish cross between a Hiphop stars "whip" (Ghetto for car don't you know) and something found after a long weekend at a NASCAR track watching turds circle the bowl. Just don't like it no matter how fast it is.

Comparing it to the F1 is like comparing Monet to Sherwin Williams, both are painters but one does houses!
lol!

WG.

BTW isn't this a McLaren site?

Every supercar is interesting. Thats why its a "supercar". But none of these recent "supercars" are better than a Mclaren F1 because, even though they do beat its performance, they are doing it years later and will never be able to compete head to head (meaning if Gordon could build it today...). It is a lot easier to build a supercar with today's technology and more examples to follow/compete against (almost everyone has or is making a supercar these days). Gordon set out to create the best "drivers car" and never intended to set any records, or win Le Mans for that matter. Each of these cars can beat the Mclaren F1 at something but not at everything. For example, Ferrari and Porsche have a rich racing history but build 500 or more of their supercars. Koenigsegg builds a lot less but has no racing history. It should mean something when today's "supercars" are compared to a 10 year old car. The Mclaren F1 has set the standard and whenever the word "supercar" is said, the Mclaren F1 will always be the first to come to mind.

Re: Topspeed record broken again...

Interesting. At least it can actually sort of live up to its claims. Was looking ugly there for a while. Oh, wait, it's still ugly. Sorry, had to say it :P

I'm wondering about all this work to get the car stable at those speeds...kinda weird.

Waiting for the nurburgring run?

Heh heh...this is a scale model (didn't know there was one!) of the one and only road-legal Porsche 917 . And yes LM-spec 917s run very close to 400km/h in the long straight at Le Mans (that was back in 1970 too with worse brakes, tyres and especially downforce ...quite a nightmare...those cars were deadly-unstable at these speeds!). But technically only the racecars were driven at 400km/h....

Actually Dauer claims 404.6km/h... but I searched and still haven't found any independent confirmation of that run...

who cares if the veyron beat the f1 in top speed records. the f1 is still by far the ultimate drivers car, and it only took like 13 years and 400 more hp with the help of four turbos and 4 more cylinders to do it, the mclaren that ran 240.1 was xp5 built in like 1992 or 93 right? and after all these years and that much power and such the veyron only beat the f1 by a mear 9 mph, pathetic i say, shame on thomas bscher for building it, the f1 could go faster if geared properly anyway, just as gordon murray said.
