A friend of mine has a 1993 Civic hatch with a Type-R. He has i/h/e, skunk2 coilovers and his car is gutted. On slicks he ran a 12.98, and that's a pretty much stock motor. Another friend has a 1992 hatch with the same setup except he has the GSR and his best time is 14.02. So there is a big difference in stock performance. Now the guy with the GSR has a turbo and 280whp, but he hasn't run it yet.
the 92 hatch with B18C1 must not have been on slicks, or something, or he cant drive, I know the C5 will be quicker, but not a full second quicker with same mods/wheels/curb weight.

Re: GSR or Type R

isnt all the B18C5s differences just in the valve train and CR? Its 11.0:1 w/ just a strengthened/upgraded head if im not mistaken....

Re: GSR or Type R

the head is closer to a B16's than a C1's, and I think the whole valvetrain is upgraded as well as a minor P&P job on the head, I think the C5 also has a block girdle or whatever its called, something that bolts to the main caps to strengthen them. not sure though, and the cr of course.

Re: GSR or Type R

both gsr and type r have the girdles.

i cant believe this is going on. as said before, if you want to leave the motor stock then type r is good. if you wanna build it for na or for turbo then gsr is better

Re: GSR or Type R

if your going turbo: gsr
either motor would be great for a NA build, however, the type r is already a highly built motor stock, so building it more would most likely cost more and soon it would be a drag-only kinda deal.

10.6:1 SCR, bigger cams, better springs/retainers, molybdenum coated piston skirts, different intake manifold, lightly ported head (more like a bowl blend, but whatever) and a more aggressive tune are the biggies.
