Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

I would think you could cover the vents with a sheet of metal if you do the grayforest mod to your hood, just to keep out extra water when it rains.

Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

Many people just run a CF hood and drop in a Carbonwerks/RRE hood vent front and center. People have logged significant drops in coolant temps and charge air temps while road racing thanks to the adde flow through the radiator and FMIC. This is the reason I meant to do this to the 2g for years. The engine bay is like a big parachute, catching all the air creating a high pressure area, making it difficult to get good air FLOW through the FMIC/radiator.

Luckily the EVO comes vented stock, and coolant temps never get over 183 and the FMIC must be working if I can run 12.7:1 with extra timing at 40 lbs/min and not knock, on pump. I recomend a hood vent for sure!

Water gets in there, but if Mitsu decided it was safe enough to still give a 100k mile warranty, it must be ok. The other downside is that all the heat that is released gets pulled into the HVAC system. If you turn the HVAC knob to the coldest setting but dont run the AC, you still get hot air

Right. Make and model will change thermodynamics and reactivity of metal.

Look into the CarbonTrix vents, like Kevin mentioned, and also try and figure out why you engine bay is so damn hot. Tighten the WG dump tube, manifold studs (to spec!), etc and make sure you don't just have a hot leak going on.

Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

Ok I just took a look at those hood vents and they look like something that might work for me. But (I know I'm an Idoit) how do you get the vents functional on a hood? Do you have to do some custom cutting? And If I were to get a Carbonfiber hood and do some cutting, wouldn't it come out all crappy like becuase of how the Carbon Fibers would shed?

Also, If I'm looking into getting a Carbon Fiber hood and putting Carbon Fiber vents on it, what would be the problem with getting just a carbon fiber hood with vents already in the hood?

Sorry, I know the performance stuff, But have no clue about the body mods

Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

I have heard a lot of good talk about the VIS CF hoods. It is said that they last through the heat of the turbo unlike some sold on ebay that melt sometimes. I think Shpyders hood is a VIS CF ( not sure) but most VIS hoods come with vents in em.
Weight wise you car will also be lighter with CF hood. Good luck man

Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

I suggest using the heat wrap if a hood/hood vents are out of the question... here's a link to some stuff I have...
http://designengineering.com/products.asp?m=sc&cid=3

I believe they also have turbo wraps...been a while since I have been to that site...

Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

I wouldn't recommend wrapping exhaust in that stuff, much less a manifold, etc. It traps mouisture and causes cracking and other wonderful things.

Re: Guys, I need a vented hood.

Why thank you - Its functional too, and the air would be thrown right on top of your intake filter, but its expensive as fuck.

Well, thats good and all for perfromance. But what I really wanted to do was to lets some of the hot ass air from the engine bay out. Do you think this hood would be able to do that. And Lando, thanks for the info on the Wraps. I dont want cracked manifolds or turbos.......
