Thet really don't especially stock, but I thought it was slow because of the poor auto tranny...how "modded" was the 5.0 anyways??
My cousins owned a 5.0...it had very nice grust from a start, but it really did lacked strength up top

Either way nice races, you should definately do it again with him...

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

Still hangs around 100 degrees at night? sheesh...i think i might have to a couple of test runs a couple of nights before just to make sure it ain't gonna ping. lol As for 5.0's lacking up top, the main culprit is the E7TE iron heads. I could blow more air through a straw than what those flow through an intake port. The exhaust is also poorly made from the factory. But anyways enough with the excuses. It lost but its all good. Hey bulldog, what kind of power should that thing put down with a 3.25 pulley?

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

A 3.25 pulley will add about 2 lbs of boost. So another 20 hp in stock form would be about right. I dunno what it'll get after the intake, exhaust and methanol though, but with all of that some ecu tuning will be in order as well as some dyno runs. The PCM will also have to be adjusted sooner or later as it controls the blower bypass valve which is set to vent off anything more than 14 lbs of boost...and we can't have that now can we.

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

You're going to ruin you car soo fast. I mean you've raced waay too much already in 100+ degree weather. Just take it easy on the car. You probably don't have more than 3000 miles on it, anyways.

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

LOL, I love how people make it out like the Cobalt SS is gonna fall apart. This is stupid guys, give it a rest. The car was made w/ the import enthusiast in mind (Though it is a domestic). Even if it were to have problems, he has a warranty. Not all cars suffer from little break in period, and i'm sure Bulldog won't have problems with it for awhile. Though he will have problems after he puts on that new pulley (ECU tuning is needed).

as long as he takes care of it and it doesn't have any detonation problems in the heat. then it'll be ok.

You make it sound like this guy has it WFO everywhere he drives. I've opened my car up several times in 100+ degree weather and did I have problems? Nope. The only problems I ever had was sitting in traffic idling. That was probably worse on my car than keeping the revs up going down the highway.

nice kill. i figured you had a camaro or somethin when you said 'ss.' little did i know it was a cobalt. friend of mine has one and i think they're pretty sweet little cars. good races/kills/deaths. also, what is "powershifting?" i heard you use the word once or twice and i am fairly intrigued.

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

The car will be fine guys. It's a purpose built sports car, it's made to be driven fast and I don't abuse it.
If something happens the warrenty will take care of it as it will be something wrong with the car and not my fault.

As for powershifting, it's just a term used for upshifting without taking your foot off the gas when shifting hard.

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

Purpose built sports car, haha thats stretching it a little. Never the less, I agree that its more resiliant to heat damage than people are giving credit for though. Its brand new and the motor was made with a supercharger in mind, I don't see how a properly cooled motor would suffer in stock form. Todays motors are built to take a beating.

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

Hey Bulldog nice runs. Your friends probably just figured you'de lose cuz that 5.0 sounds mean. Always get the newbs.

What kind of numbers are Cobalt SS tuners seeing nowadays? I know the car is relatively new but one of the big SRT-4 tuners was working on a turbo swap kit for the SS a few months ago and I was wondering what kind of hp/tq numbers they're competing with?

Re: SS/SC Vs. Modded 5.0

Nothing is really out for the car just yet, hell K&N doesn't even have a typhoon for sale yet. But some people have done some custom things here and there and are getting 50hp or so more than stock, which is pretty much all I want, just without doing custom fabrication.
