Re: 4th gen 10 bolt w/4.11 and 4th gear auto
WOT - wide open throttle, as in pedal to the metal
the reason that WOT in 4th gear in an automatic transmission has something to do with lubrication im not a transmission guy so i cant fully explane it, but i have heard that running high speeds in overdrive at full throttle will cause transmission damage in an automatic. the reason you dont want to be in overdrive with a manual transmission is that youll go slower. at least with sixth gear. when lingenfelter was testing his twin turbo corvette, he hit max speed in 5th gear, not 6th. the reason is with overdrive the ammount of power making it to the rear wheels is effectivly less. meaning less speed.

Re: 4th gen 10 bolt w/4.11 and 4th gear auto
You can actually damage a manual as well with WOT in the upper gears.
Shouldn't need 5th or 6th at the track. Shifting into either could damage something.

Re: 4th gen 10 bolt w/4.11 and 4th gear auto
oh and to my knowledge, there is no professional drag racer that ever uses overdrive, most drag racing transmissions only go down to a 1:1, hell funny cars and top fuel dragsters dont even have transmissions, they just have clutchpacks.

ok people, we are talking about an automatic trans here, not manual.
there's no problem with WOT shifts to 5th or 6th gear in a manual (and obviously you don't want to hold the clutch at WOT, unless you want a blown engine). www.transmissionhead.com sells what you need to get a 90% throttle 3-4 shift. TCI has what you need to get a 85% shift. they don't recommend it for trannys that are attached to engines that have more than 250hp due to the possibility of burning the trans. Link85x, do you know that 4th gen rear ends are wider than 3rd gens? your rear wheels will stick out farther than the front, unless you get spacers for the front.

Yeah, i know. I saw this kids car one town over who did the swap and it looked pretty good. It didn't stick out too much, i thought it looked kinda mean. Quick question, would i be able to purchase the master cylinder and porportional valve seperately? I won't be able to get them from the guy i'm buying the rear end from.

I won't open a new thread for this, considering that is concerns the rearend. I just remembered that it has some connecters attached to it, from the axle tub to what ever. My question is, will they attach to the frame of my car, since it's from a 4th gen? I think they won't but i'm not to sure. When i looked under his car, (it was jacked real high, so i rolled under and got a good look) the frame looked quite similar to a 3rd gen. Any suggestions?

If you get a 4th gen rear it will fit in your 3rd gen nicely, actually since 4th gens are a little wider on the rear your tires will come out a bit more, giving it a nice mean look which is another reason why I want a 4th gen rear.

I know that, i was asking about the connecters attach to the rearend. Will they connect to the frame of my car? I beleive they are bolted.

Re: 4th gen 10 bolt w/4.11 and 4th gear auto
I have a friend with an 89 iroc, his LT1 rear fit in fine. I think if you get an LS1 rear, however, that you will encounter brake issues
