I wondered the same thing as I watched it.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Also, what was the deal with the humans? Did they drink us and shit us out or did they use us to make red plants? I was wondering if the red stuff was alien shit or some alien plant.

I think the red plant stuff was some kind of alien crop that used human blood as fertilizer.

****SPOILERS******

Well, for one thing the aliens planned this extermination for a while and watched us progress. They used our struggle against us, all that man survived, disease, war...etc.. We grew, and the population go bigger. So they basically came when they knew they had enough resources (humans) to complete there takeover of planet earth.

The red weed, that was one way for them to make OUR earth look more like there planet (which we never know).. As far as humans blood, yeah i guess they used us as fertilizer...and food.

The ending, well alot of people i spoke to thought it was dumb, and to simple...but think about it. Let's say we went to mars and there was life there, then we just started drinking the planets water...eating the creatures, we wouldn't know WHAT kind of bacteria/organisms there was and we would most likely die because our immune system is new to it.

Think about this....this is true also..

Whenever nasa sends a probe or whatever out to space, they literally sterilize it 100% to make sure the machine has NO bacteria/organisms from earth to infect that planet if it was to land there. The rover sent to mars was a good example.

HERE's the kicker...... There is NO WAY to make sure something is 100% clean (free of any bacteria), it's literally IMPOSSIBLE. Now, let's say 100,000 years from know our bacteria from the mars rover starts to grow and make life there, suitable to the planets conditions (extreme heat/extreme cold)......that would then be a planet created by US....BY MISTAKE may i add.

Exactly. I heard so many people saying that the ending was stupid and they should have just blown them up and crap like that...no... thats not how the book went. Lets say you read the dr seus book go dog go, they make a movie about it, do you expect it to be about cats? No.

I thought the movie was great, I also thought the aliens looked cute and cuddley.

How was the ending stupid? Have these aliens come in contact with AIDS, SARS, West Nile, Rabbies, and Mad Cow just to name a few?

Anyway, if you feel you have to pick apart every single mili-second of the movie I just have this to say...IT'S A DAMN MOVIE LEARN TO SIT BACK AND ACTUALLY ENJOY IT!!!

Re: War of The Worlds...AWESOME.....*caution SPOILERS*

First off - damn good movie. I didn't think Spielberg still had it in him. Now as for the ending, (spoilers, obviously), it makes complete and perfect sense if you understand the basics of macro-evolution. Hell, you can see the same principle involved when the Europeans came over to the Americas. They brought their diseases, which they were immune to, but the natives weren't, so they were killed off.

As for the effects.. it wasn't overloaded at all.. the only CGI scene that made me think 'lame' was the TV reporter showing off the footage of the dozens of tripods at once. It wasn't very convincing. But seriously - you better get used to CGI, it's here to stay, and not just in action flicks. Fight Club had over 400 VFX shots.

As for the emotional side of the film.. fucking excellent. The mob scene, with the van? Intense, even difficult to watch at times. Great job again, Mr. Spielberg.

As for plotholes.. there are two major ones that people seem to have trouble dealing with. First off, the camcorder in the beginning. 'But everyting electronic died, how can the camcorder work?!?!?!?!??!?!' EMP - NOT 100% effective. Especially if the electronic device wasn't on at the time. There was a good chance that the EMP wouldn't have an effect on a few things, and the camcorder could have been one of them.

The other plothole is the fact that the machines were buried for so long, and there were so many of them, how come we never encountered a buried one before? Surely we would be building underground, a subway, a water main, something, and hit one of them. I unfourtantely can't explain this one, but then again, it is FICTION. Science-FICTION.

That's all I have to say really. Good fucking movie. Maybe second best this year behind Crash.

Re: War of The Worlds...AWESOME.....*caution SPOILERS*

I thought about the whole "how come we never found one of the burried things" idea before too. I would guess that the aliens would have burried them extremely deep which would lessen our chance of finding one. Also if one was found as soon as the government found out about it, it would have been sealed tight. It would denounce most popular religions and cause mass panic.

The emp thing, ill bet the only thing ol steve could think of to reply to that is, oops.

i thought this movie was AWESOME. one of the best i've seen lately.

the thing that made it so awesome to me was: it made me think. through the entire movie, i found myself watching scenes and thinking to myself "what if..?" i mean sure it's a bit ridiculous in ways....but in many ways, it's all too plausible too. and watching scenes like the mob fight over the van, or the people desperatley trying to get onto the harbour ferry...it really tugged at my emotions and made me think what i'd do if i were put in the same situation with my family/friends/loved ones. it's scary to think of that. especially the line where Cruise's character is talking to the man he meets in the basement of the house, and the man says "this isn't a war....this is an extermination". running that thought through your head, that there's no stopping these creatures and that you, everyone you loved, and the entire human race will soon meet an unhappy demise at the hands of these creatures...it's very unsettling.

the action, effects, and plot are all really good, but it's the unexpected emotional side of this movie that made it really good for me.

Spielberg did an incredible job of "bringing to life" the aliens as well. the "tripod" machines were terrifying (thinking of the ominous sound they make STILL sends shivers down my spine), and the technology on the them was very interesting (the long snake-like arms that seemed to have a multitude of functions).

as for the ending, i've never read the book, or heard the radio play, before, and yet i thought it worked fine. sure it was a bit abrupt, perhaps unexpected. some even think it was bad. but i say as long as the movie holds true to the original text, then that's all that really matters. sure, this may not have been an ending that was exactly made for the movies. BUT, if we go back and re-write the endings of all the classics, just so it'll look better on screen...then i think that's getting just a bit ridiculous.

over-all i'd say this is a must-see, whether you go to theatres or just rent it.

Aw, I'd say this is a must-see in the theatres. Unless you have a superb home theatre, you won't get that same impact with the sound effects. Definitley hit up the theatre on this one.
