Seriously, he fought like a little girl... Had some crazy ass windmill flailing going on. Methinks he got the stances from watching too many movies.

Re: streetfight video
I with gohan on the above, that is not a stance most martial arts teach, you are too low to punch or kick with any power, it was more to make homie back up, which he sure as hell did, LMFAO.
However, in a stylized or more kata-type movement, I have seen similar start stances. But never in Tae Kwon Do or Budo Kwon Ton Sudo, which I am pretty trained in. The white boy did get a very good jab-backfist in though, about 7 or 8 seconds before the knockdown, hard to see it but it's there. |

Re: streetfight video
looks like hung kuen to me but it could just as easily be something that is taught in a typical modern 'shaolin/chinese kung fu' place. judging on how he used the things he learnt, it seems to me that he's not done much sparring outside of the club. ignoring the simple fact that he made no attempt to bridge the gap says quite a bit, there's the other fact that the other guy did close distance and he even made bridge contact that he (kung fu guy) didn't even react to.
if you look at how he moves before it turning into a slap fest, you'd actually see quite good carrying of his vital structures and his back/forward stepping is actually quite good. by the way, stances are for training and are snap-shots of movement. you don't fight in a stance per se, rather you move in and out of them as you move. i would also say that he was still doing the moves as opposed to fighting with the style. but what do i know....? |

Re: streetfight video
Drunken, ayep, once he got back on hisa power-base, he seemed quite fluid, front leg off weight, back leg ready to carry the force of a kick. He did seem to be practicing kata more-so than keeping his power-balance, which as you say [I agree] should switch to the opponent's posture and expected attack side. At least he kept some self-awarenesws, he looked behind him a few times while "stanced", which is an idication of some training. But , man, good thing he intimidiated homie with his stances, or he'd have been toast by being so low off of his power-stances.

Re: streetfight video
....well, if it is classical hung kuen, he would've eventually moved into what he started off doing.
and that's kinda the point. normally, you go into stances as you move i.e as you've gone in for an attack or stepped off to defend. you don't tend to strike a pose and then fight from it (cos that is more or less the wrong way around). i mean, he dropped into stance as a ready response when the reality was there was nothing to respond to. of course, maybe i'm looking at it too much from what/how i was taught. |
