One spank per moderator. Seriously, there is no need to go overboard. There are already established short versions of these words that are used like "lol, btw", etc. what I am referring to are complete sentences written in that style. A mispelled word is understandable, everyone mispells every once in a while (me included as you pointed out in my previous post), but its whole sentences/posts that make no sense written in that style. Re: "NE" is NOT how you spell "ANY!"
just fussing with ya, TS, but I agree that to do a whole sentence in "net shorthand" is somewhat irritating. Not to mention, rather crude and lacking the ability to elucidate appropriately within the language framework learned [hopefully] in school.
What really gets me is the younger folks who I have actually [SERIOUSLY] overheard talking to each other in public in "net'. I was absolutely stunned, one girl said LOL to the guy, who responded with BTW in the actual letters themselves!!!!!!!!! There's a few new Mickey D candidates for ya. Sad state of affairs, sigh. |

Re: "NE" is NOT how you spell "ANY!"
OK, so I'm late to the thread, but NE stands for any of the following (and some others I'm sure):
New England North East The first half of "Never East Shredded Wheat" (anyone know what that's for?) NYSE symbol for Noble Corp Nebraska and NOT the word "any".

Re: "NE" is NOT how you spell "ANY!"
Not a clue... I WOULD say it's for something like... directions or something, but see EAST is already in there... so I'm not sure just exactly WHAT it stands for. I mean you can't have an analogy that has part of THE things it's analogizing (dammit, it's a word)... so I'm stumped? What is it? Or maybe those 'S's just tend to slip right in there... ?

Bottom line is people need to learn to type so that others will understand them. I've seen some kids at school type papers (for a grade!!) and put those slang terms in them. The whole world has gone to hell thanks to the Internet. If you can't type the entire word or sentence, then don't do it at all.
