Re: Alero in Europe

By the way, were those built in Lansing, Michigan or somewhere else?

I believe so. Maybe our friend from Belgium can help translate some of the info below. It does state "Made in USA" in the text and we all know that had to be Lansing, MI. I just find the whole thing about a Chevrolet Alero interesting and how GM handled certain models it exported.

I'm sorry I assumed you were in the French part. You're in the nicer part of Belgium though. I ran this through one of those free translators and it came out weird. Doesn't look like a good write up. It was by some French car magazine. It figures.

The alero 2.4 is not frank a car recommandable. In spite of a price clearly higher, the version 3.4, with his V6, appears nevertheless a lot more attaching. His motor clearly more pleasant accepts more gladly climb in the turns and compares itself at the same time, by a certain nonchalance, more of this than one awaits of a model made in USA. Who more is, the consumptions not a lot more students. Not a lot of course, but sufficient to reduce again the autonomy of some kilometers. A reservoir of 57 liters for such a gabarit, it is current in the American production, but insufficient at our place. A modest Peugeot 306 some offers 60 and the standard ones of the category evolve rather between 70 and 80 liters! If the alero 3.4 able averages student, she will be therefore slowed by the re-provisionings. In any case, the aerodynamic noises are sufficiently numerous in order not to to have envies to roll too quickly. Damage that, even down with speed, the suspension lacks as much comfort. Cushioning filters enough poorly, this that penalizes equally the road behavior. Globally effective and easy to take in hands thanks to a pleasant direction, the alero lacks held as soon as the road becomes bad or, once more, that the driver brings up a little the rhythm.

Re: Alero in Europe

dannyma-If you get the Europe alero its called the chevy alero, not olds. alero, plus it has the chevy emblem. We have a girl that is working in our Pharmacy that is from Germeny and said that the autobond in parts has no speed limits and some do.

Re: Alero in Europe

Anyone else notice a few differences?
- First, the turn signal in the headlight assembly is clear, not orange like ours.
- Last, there is an orange turn signal on the fender by the door...to me, this just looks out of place.

I think its kinda funny that there are these differences, eventhough neither of these were ever used on the Alero's in the U.S.

Good observation. Its an Euro thing. I noticed the same side front marker/signal lights on BMWs, Audis and VWs even in the U.S.

Also, I'm quite sure they use different obd-ii emissions standards and the ECU/PCM is programmed differently. With that 95 plus octane unleased gas they have the spark advance, knock retard(KR) and timing can be improved over ours. Plus the speed limiter is removed.

Thumbs up

Thanks, I'm very satisfied...

There are a few differences (I compare with the Alero's I've rented in LA)

-No daylights....
-When I lock the car, there's no short sound of the horn...
-No spoiler (never seen here an Alero with spoiler)

On the spoiler, get an aftermarket one. It will make your Alero unique.
Good luck and happy motoring.
