Re: anybody here play guitar?
I play. usually I play with my friends at school. It's me with mostly rhythm guitar and bass, and my friend with backup guitar, another friend for bass when I'm not playing and another friend with drums..he's amazing. We play mostly Coldplay, Dave Matthews, Blind melon and others. We're currently working on our own stuff though.

Re: anybody here play guitar?
I've been playing since I was 4. 18 now, so 14 years. My axe of choice right now is my Schecter 006 elite. Started off on a Charvele, not sure what kind, but it was sweet as hell. too bad I don't still have it, or else BIG BUCKS. Drop C i velieve is the best tuning, best sounding.

Re: anybody here play guitar?
Gotta love a Martin, personally I am an Alvarez or Takamini(sp?) guy. Of course my friend has the most badass Taylor...every time I hear it I just want to make love to it.

fluttering? i havent heard that one..maybe its the same thing. Just listen to "face:face" by norma jean, the intro is grinding. not sure about fluttering. ive been working on sweeping, but its SO slow, i can do it fast but its sounds like a gorilla making love to a neutered male dog.
.....dont ask

that "griding" sound can be called "fluttering", it's like when you're tuning the guitar and say for example you are using harmonics to tune the D string the same pitch at the 5th harmonic on the A string (produces same frequency pitches), you know that weird "fluttering" sound you get when you are off pitch? Same deal here, just with a definate 1 step (note) interval. for sweeping, build up speed on some of these: Code:
e--------5h8p5---- B------6-------6---- G----7-----------7-- e--------12h15p12---- B------13---------13---- G----14-------------14-- |

davo i have a question for you, how would you play this-
------------------------14h17p14----------14171714-------- -------14------------14--------------14-------------14---- ----14----1414----14-------------------14-------------14-- -16-------------16----------------16---------------------16 ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -14----14h17-17p14-------------- ----14--------------15----------------- -------------------------------- ----------------------------- ------------------------ ------------------------- Its from the painkiller solo by judas priest, its the first solo im attempting to play that goes up and down, are you supposed to bar the 14 fret or you press each note individually? |

Re: anybody here play guitar?
Painkiller is an awesome song
I've never attempted that song before (as it doesn't interest me to play), but I have a midi-turned-guitar tab of the song, I highly recommend the program Gutiar Pro (www.guitar-pro.com, www.mysongbook.com for tabs), it has helped me so much. With that section you've posted, I would have my 3rd finger (ring) on the F# (16th fret) (or my pinky which ever is more comfortable), and my index (1st) finger resting from A (14th fret G string) to F# of the E string. Here is the tricky part which I haven't quite figured out for full-strengh sweeping (5-6 strings), you "mute" the note you just played with you palm, like a palm mute, but only the note you just played. For example, you play the F# on the 16th fret, then with your palm, mute it, then strike the A, mute it, then strike the C#, mute it, etc. This is insanely hard, and possibly one of the most difficultest techniques possible for the instrument. It took me so many months to get 4 strings down. The sweep of it, once you hit the string, you mute it just before you hit the next note, this is done so the note does not "ring" on. This technique CAN be avoided when sweeping 3 or less strings and you are in a possition (like my example in my previous post), and can lift your fingers up off from the string without "pulling off". If I had my amp at home I'd record an example but I don't. I'll try and record an example on my acoustic, or just my electric. Because you mute it, you don't need to 'fret' each note individually, the 1 finger for A, C#, and F# (all the 14th fret). It's hard to explain though, but I hope that sorta helps. This thread should really be moved to the music form (just a thought). |
