I had a funny thing other than the melted connection. I changed the bulb couple of days ago and then found out in a cold morning, when I braked both the signal lights came on dimmly. When I signaled left, which is the side where I replaced my brake light bulb, it brinked at a faster rate. The right signal is ok. By the afternoon, when it's warmer everything was normal. The next morning, same funny situation occurred. Should I changed the board or just the bulb..the newer type as mentioned in the previous thread.

Re: Brake light 2002 venture
I'm having a similar problem. Right turn signal works ok until I hit the brakes, then they start going faster. Viewed from behind the turn signal and brake lights alternate. I believe the backup lights also come on. I'm assuming this is a related problem - circuit board.

Re: Brake light 2002 venture
sounds like the two lights are shorting together on the circuit board to me.

In my case actually it's the ground wire/connector burnt out, forming a large resistance, when the brake being applied, the brake light current goes thru' other bulb coils that cause other bulbs lighted up, sometimes partially. The design may have a problem of having 5 light bulb eleemnts with one ground wire of the same size. The circuit board is ok, don't buy a new one without making sure it's damaged. The dealer shop guy always blame the board and it cost you a fortune $90-100.00.

Took apart the right tail light assembly. Looked at the circuit board assembly, nothing jumped out at me. Hooked the lights back up, same problem - when the signal light is on and brakes are pressed, the brake light (& I believe the backup light as well) flash with the signal light and the ABS light comes on. I connected the left side tail light assembly to the right side and tested it. No problems. Then I tried the right tail light assembly on the left. No problems. Now I'm really confused. I swapped them back again. Left okay, right not okay. It turns out that the two circuit boards are the same, except that each has a hole drilled in a different location for assembly. I drilled out the holes, filled the old holes with silicone sealant, and reassembled the taillight assemblies so the circuit boards are swapped. Its been over a month and still no problems. No ABS light either. |
