Re: horsepower for my car

I calculate that a 20000 lb vehicle with 3200 hp would still run low 11's given that it was geared properly and had traction (which with that much weight shouldn't be a problem)

BHP is engine output in hp with parasitic losses due to accesories, etc, not just power at the crank In aircraft, they literally can use a huge water brake (like a jet engine's compresser stage, looks spectacular with the water spraying out the back) to load the engine, simulating these losses. never seen it for a car engine, oddly

gross hp is just that- total without silly things like water pumps or alternator/serpentine belts, emissions controls, exhaust, etc. SOmetimes even on a dyno run, with induction much better than a real car would ever see, and often, the highest average hp the engine can make- so they take say 1000 engines, test them, and take the high average or better. The range would be say from 200 to 300 hp, assume high average is 275 and low average is 225. they are going to rate the engine at 300 hp if they think it cab help sell cars. Almost nobody tosses the car on a chassis dyno, so if the car really makes 280, it will still 'feel like' 300 to the owner, because he simply can't judge the difference

You are such a wuss

Man up, and don't be afraid to lose. If you like racing, you'll atleast take the risk in losing.

Earlier today, a Z28 flat out owned me. The driver was cool and I told him I knew he would kill me. He laughed, and gave me the thumbs up. Atleast when you try to race, you show that you can have a good time whether you win or lose. Plus, you can meet some pretty cool people when you do. Or some douche bags. Either way, you'll have a fun experience trying.
