Since a tempered safety glass windshield is difficult to cut, the windshield frame is usually tilted back (the same can be done to the back glass). This also prevents the need to add more metal to the roof and makes the car look more sleek. Another option is to channel the windshield into the firewall, essentially lowering the windshield into the body of the car. Mixed results have been found with the cutting of windshield glass, but one method used is to cut both sides of the glass exactly the same, squirt lighter fluid in the crack then light it on fire to burn out the film between the layers of glass. Some people have also used a sand blaser or grinder, but the best thing to do is to avoid having to cut the glass alltogether. There are some excellent books on the topic such as "How to Chop Tops in 301 Photos". This book is designed for street rodders but the techniques will be the same for most any car. Just my
