Re: ahhhh koni reds or tokico illuminas

If its your car that hits the ground, then you definantly need stiffer springs. id get the stiffer springs first then gets some dampers; the Koni reds should be fine but if you have the extra cash just go ahead and get the Sports(yellows)

Re: ahhhh koni reds or tokico illuminas

alrighty, Thanks sooo much for the help everyone. I think when I get struts I am going to go with the reds, however should I wait and get different springs and struts? It's like 200 for a set of good springs right? Are skunk2 coilovers crap?

Are you sure that's it's not the tires that are hitting the inside of the fenders? 215 you say dose your friend have that 2? I would have gotton 205.
Well it all depends on the labor. I mean if your getting the shocks might as well get stiffer springs. But then agian that all depends on if you think that's going to help(springs) Skunk2 are good springs but i think(my opinon)that Eibach's are better.

How can I double check to make sure that it is not my tires hitting the wheel well? There would be strange wear on them wouldn't there? My friend has the normal 195 stock wheels, but his tires are a lot thicker, so I am less than an inch off from total stock circumfrence.

I'm sure some of it is just my driving, as I have never owned a lowered car, however the wheel base should be short enough to not have to worry about entering turns up corners at higher speeds. Yeah, stiffer springs might help but it is the shock that controls the rate of the springs compression right?

ok, check it out.
If you can take the wheel of the car and, check to see if their any marking of tire in the side the fender. Dont forget to check the top too.
You say that your friend has thicker...ok buy yours are wider(215) and, are you sure thats it's only an inch(iam 205)?
Have you looked underneth your car to see where your bottoming out?

"but it is the shock that controls the rate of the springs compression right"?

True but, if you have a week spring, then thiers only some much a shock can help. Unestly I don't think that its the springs. Its got to be your old shocks. Once you get the new(koni's) you should be in good shape

Thanks for the offer but I am poor college student paying out of pocket and I think I am going to stick with the Skunk2's. I'll keep you all posted. I have looked everywhere and can't find a strut installation thread...someone point me in the right direction or tell me what words to search?

Alrighty I have checked and I see a few tire rub marks the thickest being up top...closest to the front of the car. Should I raise the car a little, or will shock avoid this rubbing? Also anyone know where to get some koni reds for less than $334?

Are the marks inside, are they closer to the inside or outside of the fender?

So what you have Skunk2 Coilover's or just the springs? Ok, if you have the Coil over's then I Reallysuggest that you do raise it. Do you use an alan-wrench or a Perch to raise it. When you raise it, twist it completly around twice and, that should give you about alittle over half an inch. Adleast thats how it is on my GC. Like i said before you got more then a two inch drop. And the shocks will help but, it wont completely elimanate your problem of scraping the fender with your tire. I think that was a bad chioce in getting 215. I know a lot of people who got 17'' on the Teg's with a 2inch drop's and they dont have your problem but, they have 205's I mean 215 it ok, but you clearly cant lower it 2inch or +.
You know you really dont have to get the red's because the Hp's(tokico blue's) are on the same level. I know that i said the red's are better but if it came down to money! Thier no-shame in the Blue"s because you do get your money's worth. I say this from experince!

Re: ahhhh koni reds or tokico illuminas

Right on, thx for the info...not sure think the marks were pretty much in the middle. I bought the car with wheels, wasn't my choice. I wonder how much slower the car because of the larger wheel. All I know is my friends LS churps through third gear on stock wheels as mine doesn't in any. You think it is slower or just grips better....or a little of both?

Yeah I think I am going to stick with the reds...I just really like what I hear about the konis and they are only like 30 dollars more. I think I should deffinately raise the car just a little bit. They are skunk2 coilovers and I'm not sure if it is a wrench or not that I am supposed to use.

Re: ahhhh koni reds or tokico illuminas

Ok I checked my fender wells again and I notice some wear towards the inside, revealing the shiny metal where dirt and grime used to be. Does anyone know if skunk2 uses perch or uses wrench, cause I deffinately want to raise the car at least half an inch.

Well i pretty sure that the Skunk2 uses an Alan wrench. Dont worry it's easy to raise up. You just you a alan wrench to losen the bolt and, twist to the hight and, then tighten . Now you like i said, two full turns should give you half an inch or just a little higher then half.

"I checked my fender wells again and I notice some wear towards the inside" Yup those tires are to wide

"You think it is slower or just grips better....or a little of both?" Just a little slower..grips??..yeah

Alrighty might have spoken too soon. Once the Springs settled in, a half day of driving...they started rubbing again. Is 215 just too wide for this car...I want to be able to drop, or will shocks fix this?
