Re: 2000 charging issues
Did you check fuse #20 ... per my post above? Right out of my electric diagram for '99's.

Yep that i did. All fuses are fine. not sure about the realays, but i dont see one in the wiring diagram. Since there are no other riveability issues and no other system failures that i can find, i have mostly ruled out fuses e.t.c.
Two things that i cant figure out are: 1) On the front of the alternator mounting bolt there is a little black box that fits onto the bolt and is secured to the alternator that way, but then it has only one wire that grounds to the front of the engine compartment. What is this? 2) coming out of the loom that holds the + wire that connects to the alternator is a 3" or so single pin connector. What is this? thanks for all the help so far. I am slowly eliminating issues. The wife should be back w/ alternator #3 soon. |

Success!!
after all this it turns out to be the replacement alternator. I appreciate the help and input, i can deffiantely say that i learned alot obout my Winnie (have only had it ofr 2 months). this was the first issue i have had to address. What i learned: 1) The Haynes manual i have doesnt even come close to addressing the 1999 and newer W-Stars. 2)Occam's Razor: When multiple solutions are present, the simpleist is preferred. Make no more assumptions then are needed. In other words, why look for trouble with the hard stuff when it is usually the easy stuff in the first place. Thank you all! |
