Ok Just an FYI:
The Fbody 3.8L has had 200HP since 1995. The L36 motor in Buicks reportedly have 205. If your car is stock it has 200 flywheel horsepower. Secondly, the guys at www.firebirdv6.com don't have enough automotive knowledge to clean tires. The guys that know ANYTHING are pompous and biased, and will tell you things like upgrading your ignition system will take half a second from your 1/4 mile time. Headers are probably an expense that you won't want, there are 2 versions you can get for that car, each exceeding $500, and that's without sending them to Jet-Hot. The ceramic coating they come with is garbage. The Rksport headers suck and are notorious for leaking. Hooker, the other choice, is nearly as expensive for the ceramic coated version but I have not heard any thing bad. Don't go with a larger I-pipe than 2.5". You'll lose too much low-end torque in the V6. That is all. :smoker2: |

FirebirdGirl,
To learn about car lingo, subscribe to some magazines like Car Craft or Chevy High Performance (I know, I know... these are Chevy 350 small block biased, but their articles are very detailed (technically) and have good photos, and a subscription costs less than $10 per year...); You may also want to get a repair manual so you can see specific things about your car (and also do some car work yourself and save money that way...); go look at car repair books at the library (some libraries have them, some don't); Above all else, don't be afraid to ask questions (if you don't understand something, keep asking until you do); no question is too dumb (I'd rather ask questions than be dumb...); it's the answers that make you smart; and just ignore anyone who's trying to stop you from enjoying learning about your car (for every 1 a-hole there must be about 10+ good people out there).

Re: I'm a poor white girl with a need for speed and 205hp ain't cuttin' it
id say to start modding a car id go wiht an exhaust system, whether it is headers and a full system or a simple bolt and clamp on cat-back
adding things like a K&N and stuff will be a good start too a great way to start out for a newb woudl be to pull up to AutoZone or A&A or whatever and ask he guy at the desk what you can do to get some pickup out of ur car |
