I checked with the local autoparts store and they can't check transmission codes with their scan tool. It does it so infrequently that I decided to use it as is for now. I did pick up some Lubeguard Shutter Stop, and plan to try that if the problem persists. Hopefully it won't get any worse. Thanks, again for all your advise.

They probably have a scanner that does generic codes only. Most tranny codes will be manufacturer specific, therefore the scanner must have the capability to generate these such as P1XXX. Shops or dealers with a Tech II machine can check for transmission codes.
I have a friend with a '01 Impala LS who has the same problem and he has been living with the problem for about a year and it hasn't gotten any worse. The Lubegard helped.
