I wouldn't do it again.

Ok, we are at 4 days, and the parts look EXACTLY the same as the day I put them into the acetone. Today, I physically checked the gasgets today for any signs of them turning to mush.

No problems noted. Next update will be Saterday.

Re: acetone in gas?! 30-50% better MPG?!!!!

actetone in ur fuel tank is dumb any one who does this is a friggen idiot acetone hardens rubber parts and makes plastic brittle also aluminum is damaged it basically pits parts beyond repair and some one else said if it worked fuel makers would use it my opinion is it is just dumb

Acetone and Parts test update

I ended up pulling the parts out of my 100% pure acetone bottle.

My parts are totally fine, and show no issues what so ever. After about 1 month immersed in acetone would IMHO be the equivelent of about 10 years of acetone exposure at 100 ML per full tank fill up.

I needed the acetone to work on a few dirt-bikes. LOL! :-)

I will be re-testing the acetone as a gasoline additive once I get my Distributor Cap and Plug wires swapped out.

Has anyone else tried acetone as a gasoline additive / octane booster? What are the results.

This is what I thought as well.

The claims that it will eat everything is unfounded and completely ridiculous if you have any knowledge about chemistry whatsoever.

The concentration is not even close to some of the other additives in our fuel that could do the exact same thing in high concentrations.

Cool Re: acetone in gas?! 30-50% better MPG?!!!!

and what would you need 150octane for anyway????,a gallon of acetone cost how much??($8-9gal??),to bring gasoline up to 150octane takes how much acetone???,our trucks were designed to run on 89oct,and can easily run on 87 w/no loss of power(unless pulling a load),I've got a firebird sitting out front w/12.1comp and doing 130mph 1/4 trap speeds, and runs 93oct. w/no problems,no additives in the crankcase or tank, never have been, never will be,but its your money,if using additives makes you feel like you got something out of it,then more power to ya.

I'm just doing a little research here... Anyone heard of this?I originally thought more gas vaporization might= detonation, but the third site says acetone has octane of 150.

130 works great every other fillup on your road bike or if you race auto cross

Thumbs up Acetone does work

I use Acetone in a 2005 Ford Ranger and get perfect results and increased mileage. Take a look at http://www.GasGouging.com. There are articles related to acetone and interviews with people who have used it as well.

I'm just curious but would heat or pressure have any effect on how acetone reacts to rubber or plastic? Correct me if I'm wrong but with acetone added to fuel, heat and pressure would be factors to how acetone reacts in our engines and on parts opposed to just sitting in a container.

Hello,

It's not just this board and those listed talking about it. I've been to several other automotive boards.

Even some firearms oriented boards are talking about it, and one gent on Shootersville.net is trying it and will average it out after about five tanks.

It seems just about everyplace I go I see "acetone this, acetone that" and people getting results.

Maybe there is something to it, and maybe not. I do not believe the small concentration will hurt you engine however.

I think I may try it. I will use a little less then 6 ounces per fill up considering I have a 18 gallon tank and it calls for 3 ounces per 10 gallons. I will let you know how it works out.

More Acetone Info

Roger Crawford, a businessman and independent researcher in Midland, Texas, takes a different approach to fuel economy. He has just begun marketing a gas additive he calls “XtraMPG.” He says it boosts octane, burns cleaner and enables motorists to get better fuel economy and buy less-expensive grades of gas — saving 10 to 15 percent overall on gas.

What’s in XtraMPG? “Most of us know it as nail polish remover,” Crawford says. “It is simple acetone, a nonhazardous organic chemical ... rated at 150 octane.”

Crawford says he would be happy if everyone bought acetone and added it to their gas tanks. But since people seem reluctant, he is packaging it as XtraMPG.
