The point was not what shade of silver the car was, or who made it versus who modified it and what it should be called now...rather, where its license plate was from. Maybe there's another forum where we can debate such incredibly exciting stuff. If there isn't, surely you can start one, as I am simply dying to discuss this. But can we try not to get our knickers in a twist over such trivialities here? Thanks.

You are correct with Alpina, and AMG but RUF is a German Licensed manufacturer with there own vin even though they borrow the chassis of Porsche they are there own. If you Like we can head over to the RUF section and I will gladly set talk more with you.

You just know someone's gonna come in here and explain how RUF is indeed a manufacturer and since Electronic Arts has an exclusive right to Porsche's in video games, that's why there are RUFs and not Porsche's in Gran Turismo.

For me, a manufacturer is someone who has raw metal sheets entering the factory, and running cars exiting. Not someone who got their own VINs to put on cars they merely slap badges on, or modify extensively.

It's not that difficult to get your own VIN series. Any idiot can pay the fees, pass the exams and inspections, and register with the relevant authorities. It doesn't make them a bona fide manufacturer.

I am so very interested in this. Really. Samurai, make sure you wait for me in that other forum. I will be right over. Honest.

Where do these people come from???!!!

Not everyone is as infinitely wise as you are monster.

Try to be a little more accomodating, or ignore them. If this was your forum you could make the rules. Since it's not, you get to take what it gives you, just like the rest of us. If someone says something that bothers you try counting to ten before you hit "Reply" and say something unnecessary.

It's not my forum either btw, it belongs to all the members of AF.com - all 316,760 of them.

Re: McLaren F1 GTR in Bahrain

Point taken (in more ways than one). I don't know how we got here from talking about whether the license plate was from Bahrain or Dubai.

Re. the forum not being mine...I have decided to set up my own website. It might even have its own forum, or just link to (the interesting parts of) this one.

If any of you have tips on what you would (or would not) like to see in a McLaren-related website, please let me know in the appropriate thread I have just started.

Re: McLaren F1 GTR in Bahrain

OK, hands up everyone I have offended. Let's add up all the hands and divide by 316,760 or whatever. And if it's less than 1% (that would be 3,167 individuals), then maybe it's McLaren240! who should shut the hell up and quit being offensive by wasting bandwidth with his repeated, obnoxious whining. After claiming that he has me on ignore, clearly a lie, this must be the fifth time he's asked to get me banned--on ludicrous grounds or false accusations. What a tool.

I don't care if you are handicapped, nor do I hate you for it. I don't even care about trying to figure out your posts anymore, because I know exactly what they are worth. So, like I ignore you, why don't you put me on your little ignore list?

Stop using your handicap to try and win sympathy. Sheesh!

And put me on your ignore list, ffs. Please.

[God I love these smilies]

And what do I care if Ruf can put on their own VIN plates on a Porsche? They are still Porsches. Race teams often modify their cars far more than Ruf (look at the outfit that won Daytona 24 Hrs with their modified Porkers--Racer's Edge or something), but they don't change the name.

Even if they did, it wouldn't mean anything. It would still stay a Porsche. And it will always stay a Porsche, unless they start with their own chassis, instead of modifying a Porsche chassis, and put in their own motor, instead of modifying the Porsche motor, and put on their own, distinct bodyshell, instead of modifying the one supplied by Porsche. Is this really so hard?

Call it a Ruf if it makes you happy or if it makes you feel like you know something. To me, it's a Porsche. It might be a modified Porsche, but because it started life as a Porsche, and still looks like one and bears many original Porsche components, it will remain a Porsche. To continue to belabor this point when the discussion was about the license plate to begin with--absolutely retarded.

Re: McLaren F1 GTR in Bahrain

Not exactly the car in the picture I was originally referring to, is it? And not exactly on topic with the title of this thread, is it? Don't you guys know how to create new threads? It keeps things nice and organized, and it keeps the discussion within each thread on topic, see. It really does work if you follow the rules. Give it a whirl next time.

Yes, I would happily call that a Ruf, if ony it wasn't "powered by a modified 911 Turbo."

Shame that it looks so much like a Boxster from the front too. And the rear...oh, dear! Oh well, it's a half decent kit car, and I am sure if they leave that 911 turbo in there it will be quite fast too.

Can we get back to the McLaren in Bahrain? Or can the mod split this nonsense off into a a new thread for the individuals who consider it so important?
