Re: 95 3KGT SL vs. 95 Stang GT Conv.

I've double clutched every day I've been driving my vr4...how many races have you heard me lose?

I know, kinda a stupid statement, but so are those saying double clutching is a waste of time. Our synchros are notoriously bad, so why not do everything you can to prolong their life...I mean you don't hear them saying "changing oil is a waste of time and energy"...modern synthetic oils are much more resistant to breaking down, but you still wanna change them every few thousand...

Double clutching has nothing to do with making you faster or slower. You only double clutch when you downshift...and the only time you downshift in a race, would be if someone did a flyby and you downshifted and gave chase....like I said, I double clutch everyday, and it is a force of habit now...I do it without thinking about it, and it takes me only a fraction of a second longer than a normal downshift would.

Bottom line, it is a good habit to get into and has zero unwanted effects.

As the old saying goes...there are 2 sides to every argument...and mine is the right one

So explain how you do it, if it puts less wear on the synchros.

Re: 95 3KGT SL vs. 95 Stang GT Conv.

I think I've explained this a billion times, so some searching should find something...but basically.

Clutch in
Shift to neutral
Clutch out
blip gas to rev match
Clutch in
Shift to desired (lower) gear
clutch out
GO

OMFG!! Finally someone that thinks the same about it as me, I always say it makes sense that it would prolong synchro life, cuz there's little for the synchro to do when you double clutch so it's like not even using them.

lol ok i have to master this now

I really wish i would've had a hooptie/bucket manual car to practice on because sometimes i'm affraid to do stuff with my 3kgt.

Hey ... about my underdrive pulley. As i said before i have a 50lbs. system. Will the pulley affect my car's electrical demand? And it's gonna replace my stock pulley right so i won't need any belts?

Re: 95 3KGT SL vs. 95 Stang GT Conv.

Go with a lightweight pulley from 3sx. You keep the stock size and get the same basic benfits as a underdrive.

If your in there and the assecory belt is cheep then why not get a new one? Dunno how much they are though.

Ahh so thats what double clutchign is, I just started doing that a little while ago, seems like a big deal over a little thing. Where do the gears like to catch at best?

Re: 95 3KGT SL vs. 95 Stang GT Conv.

Just downshift normally, make a mental note of where the rpms jump up to...you want to blip the throttle a bit higher than that, so they are dropping in, as you complete the shift....just practice, you'll feel the difference (no jerk) when you successfully double-clutch smoothly.

Yea i tried it today on my way to work. After a few tries i was able to downshift with no jerk I've only tried it from 3rd to 2nd though.

Today i was driving passenger in my cousin's honda civic, and i asked him about double shifting. He told me he'd demonstrate and here's what he did:

1 From 1st he floored it

2 Applied Clutch really fast and let it go While still flooring it ....

And i was like dude ....... like no lol

And then he showed me a whole bucnh of "racing" tricks that i'm damn absolutely sure would destroy my trans over time. Snapped every gear. Before his 2nd gear hit redlineheh did the 2steps above, then shifted to 3rd. Also showed me how he shifted without applying the clutch. Basically stuff i wouldn't wanna try with my car ......

LoL! yea he even told me himself, "Man you shouldn't try this though, because it'll really fuk up your car overtime. My 2nd is starting to pop out of gear while i'm driving. It goes into neutral and i'm like wtf?" But damn i have so many friends with civics and let me tell ya ...... those things can really take abuse. I have a friend who drives like he's in a freakin race track "normally" lol.
