Seriously, WTF is with you people? You put a bunch of "coming soon" bullshit in your sigs, and now all of a sudden you're all audiophiles? Give this guy a break already...

Ghost, ignore the superiority complexes here...

Let's be realistic... 111 shipped isn't that bad of a deal for two 8000s, even though they're discontinued. Sure, that bandpass box is probably shyte, but if you take the plunge and build your own ported box, you can make them come alive. Hell, I'm sure ng would build one for you. 8000s are decent for the money, even by today's "supersub" standards.

but the set-up i have is good enough for me, and thats what counts to me.
And that's all that really matters... There will always be better equipment out there, but at least get your money out of those 8000s before blwing another 200 on a new sub and box just because these guys decided they wanted to piss on your gate...

Feel free to stop by anytime...I've had plenty of respectable system in the past 2.5 years...from low budget to high-er budget...

Re: new bandpass box with mtx 8000'2 200 off ebay.

brandish, ya i will try the ported box, i think this box is hitting the wrong frequency at low range.NG, i will also experiment with those subs u guys are praising. i do like SQ, but i guess i care for spl more. i might try a 15 re or something and maybe fit it all in my little rx and blow the back hatch out! thanks for the advice, ive never even heard of those subs before, but they look mean. cant wait to hear one. if i was close to ohio, id love to hear your system.

The problem with those prefabs (especially the bandpass ones) is that they're not even remotely close to being properly designed, or built for that matter. There are only a handful I'd actually reccommend. Most of them come off an assembly line in Taiwan or wherever, made of 5/8" MDF (LDF...?), hot glued and stapled together. The plexi is normally 1/4" at most, screwed down and in most cases not even sealed properly. You might as well put those subs in a cardboard box.

Now... a proper bandpass box for those two subs would probably be much larger than the one you have, and therefore maybe not very practical. Also, a bandpass box is much less forgiving to design flaws, so if you've never built a box before then it may not be a good format to start with.

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products...bs/T81044A.pdf

Here is a manual for those 8000's (if you don't already have one)... The first link is for the single voice coil models, second one is for the dualies. MTX lists a range of reccommended enclosures, the optimal ones being highlighted in grey. For example, the reccommended ported box for those subs is 1.25ft^3 per sub, with a 3" round port 16" long. Tuning is at 31Hz, which is probably ideal for most people because it offers kind of a median point between SPL and low-end extension. You can tune higher to gain more SPL and have a smaller box, but you will lose some low end. Conversely, you can tune lower with a larger box and gain some low end, but you'll probably notice a drop in overall SPL. It all depends on what you're looking for. Hell, you could even drop MTXs designs altogether and crunch the numbers yourself if you're feeling ambitious. You can download a box design program such as WinISD and plot out some designs yourself. There is some speculation over the accuracy of that program (many times it will churn out crazy numbers that dont even come close to manufacturer's reccommendations), but I've used it a number of times to design ported boxes without peril.

If you're not feeling ambitious enough, or just don't have the tools to build your own box, you can go to your local shop and get a quote for them to build it for you. Try to get them to show you some work they've done as to avoid having a hack job done on your box. I'd build it for you, but unless you live in Ontario, you're gonna be paying an arm and a leg for shipping. On a side note, RE makes fantastic subs too, so you wont go wrong with them either. I myself have owned a pair of Adire Shivas, and currently a 15" Brahma, so I will vouch for them as well. Good luck...

Re: new bandpass box with mtx 8000'2 200 off ebay.

i will built a new box, i have built boxes before that have worked well, like i said i did get mecp certified 4 yrs ago and learned to built boxes from dave"the fishman" rivera i just figured 90 bucks wasnt a bad deal. when i got it i thought it looked too small for my subs. the other bow i was looking at was a fiberglass/mdf combo to give it some looks. i like to show my car so i dont think i want a standard square box, but if its the best sounding, ill suffer. ill give it a try, thanks.

the fishman? isnt that that guy who puts sharks in his SPL/show vehicles? i never liked any of his stuff. Why would you put a fish in a car with a system (or at all).... they are probably confused as hell with all of thoes deep frequincies.

Re: new bandpass box with mtx 8000'2 200 off ebay.

i dont think it was sharks, just fish. i thought it was pretty stupid myself, but his custom fiberglass skills where rediculous. he did a mustang with 3 ads 10's that looked perfect. neons, plexiglass, ect....the best think i learned was custom fiberglass molding, and yes the fish were deaf!lol
