Vietguy,
Why do you want to go 215-45-18? A 215-45-17 tire is already slightly taller than stock. Going to the 18" wheel would completely throw off the speedometer and change your gearing. Due to the larger diameter, your acceleration times would increase. If you want a 45 series tire, just stick to the 17" rim. It is a very close match to the stock size. If you want an 18" rim, then just go with 225-35-18. The truth is, there is not much difference in ride quality when you change the profile of the tire. In fact, when I went from my stock 195-65-14s to my current 205-40-17s, there was minimal change in ride quality. The harsh ride quality occurs when you lower your car too much and it bottoms out on the bumpstops or when you choose a strut with too high compression dampening.
BTW, for P10 owners, the 215-40-17 tire is a VERY close fit on the rear. I've seen this size tire on two P10s, but in both cases, it required significant rear wheel well rolling. Even then, it would still rub.
