Yup,
Having the Numbers Match means that the V.I.N. found on the car's chassis are the same as the V.I.N. found on the engine. Open up the hood in any new car and you'll see.
The original 289 has probably been melted down for scrap parts and is now in someone's kitchen being used as a skillet.
