Pretty much, yeah.

I get P0300 a lot. Lopey idle tends to do that.

Re: "Service Engine Soon" Light

Thats the wiring harness that goes from the computer inside, out through the passenger fender to the motor. What you looking at is a wiring connector that went from inside to the outside of the car.It had about fourty wires going to it now its just a useless lump inside my fender well.

I have purchased two ignition coils and will install them this weekend. I hope it works, but from the sound of some of these posts, I probably shouldn't be optimistic.

my mechanic has offered to reset the code on the service engine light for me if I did the work myself. of course, it's irrelevant it the coils aren't the problem.

back to square one then, I suppose.

worst part is my inspection was due in january and i can't get it done until this issue is resolved.

Re: "Service Engine Soon" Light

I was able to replace the remaining two ignition coils myself. Didn't take care of the problem. I can't wait to see what they can find next! THis is a nice Pandora's Box. And a black hole for my money.

Re: "Service Engine Soon" Light

My 96 3.8 had the same problems. I can almost gurantee it is the fuel pump. It is what it was on mine and i know a few other cases. A fuel pump issues won't create a code in our year (that was added on later) The code is being set by the misfires. Sometimes it is the fuel pump relay tho. It's about $20 or so and it's an easy install... once u find the relay (which after much searching is under the driver's side door panel by the hood release). The relay didn't help me... it was the fuel pump. Honestly, I would get the fuel pump checked out. They can tell you if it's working properly before you go and spend the $ on this.
