Re: some days are just not my day.....
I've already told you and set my mind to what I'm doing with my Z... squeezing out every last drop of power of my VG30DE. Plain and simple! B'yatch! I just find these other possibilities are intersting... didn'y say I was gonna do it! Don't make me slap you, Jason... you might like it!

TOP SECRETjk
What your about to read well change your whole idea of how a engine works and how to build a engine. A engines compression ratio is the multiplcation factor or pressure that the Fuel/Air mixture when fired applys to the top of the piston. Without compression it's like burning gas in open air, nothing more than heat energy. By placing a piston and restricting the loss of the heat energy and converting it to pressure on top of the piston, we have now converted heat energy to rotating energy. The Compression pressure is what makes torque and HP. We have 2 types of compression ratio. Static and Effective. Static compression ratio is determined by the pistons installed in the engine. Effective compression ratio is determined by static compression ratio, cam timing, supercharging pressures or amounts of nitrous induced into the engine. Lets start with a engine with 12:1 pistons. By changing the cam timing to close the intake valves later causing some of the A/F mixture to backpump into the intake the compression pressure well drop and the engine well only be 9:1. Below 4,000RPM the long duration cam prevents excessive pressures, but above 4,000RPM detonation isn't much of a problem cause of the short time for filling the cylinders. The cams are one of the most important parts of building a engine. You can run catalog cams or custom cams. Catalog cams are cams most dealers sell but custom cams are ground for your engine, and the cost, generally in the same ballpark as the catalog cams. The difference, as night an day. Part 1 To be continued: |

Part 2
Now we come to Mr. Hodo's desire to supercharge his engine. If I'm not mistaken he has a 10.5:1 N/A VG30DE engine. He has 2 choices. 1. Keep his cams and pistons he has and run (approx.) 10# boost and make (approx.) 360+HP. 2. Change his cams to lower the compression pressure, run his same pistons and 15#+ boost and make 440HP. 3. There's also another choice. Nitrous. Less moving parts and if you figure how many lbs. of oxygen is in 28# of air, you'll know how much nitrous to use to accomplish the same thing as supercharging but only available when turned on, so generally you'll be running a stock HP 99% of the time. If he were to choose this route he'd never have to open up his engine, but if he wants to go beyond then we'll apply a different set of rules. In the mean time anytime someone says it isn't worth the money to supercharge a N/A engine, just smile and agree unless you want to get into a pissing contest. Care to hear more? Re: some days are just not my day.....
i have been in deep thought about this and I have 2 options with the current setup. I can run a cent-supercharger at 10-12lbs and make just over 330BHP or I can replace some top end components and lower the comp ratio to 9.5:1 and run 14-16lbs and make closer to 450bhp. I am looking at the second option more. This with a NA rear end Kaaz 1.5LSD and 1piece aluminuim shaft and a rebuilt AT The car WILL scoot! And be reliable enough for daily driving witho a hit too bad on the milage. I figure with that boost and that target compression ratio, I will probly drop down to 16-20mpg. I can live with that. And when I REALLY get serrious drop some 104octane in the tank and REALLY let it go. I found a guy here in the Z club who has a TT A/T for grabs, I dont know how much he wants exactly for it but that may become the trans for this project, I will order a different gearing set and beef up the internals for reliablity and for future power gains. Now all I need is to get the local decal shop to make me a supercharged sticker for the rear deck.
