well i have been doing this since i got the car 1 year 2 months the tranny was burned or something like that so i got it resconstructed (mom made me do it) and i could find a manual tranny so its like new and i always shift like that but is it really bad cuz it should of gotten ruin by now no? well if mom wouldnt have ruin my whole project i would of been good now but yea i forgot wat i was going 2 say lol......but yea i have won a few races well all the races doing manual shift with the A/T. only thing that i dont doo is down shift thats a big no no for me the car stops and shakes the first and only time i did it.

lol no if it was bad they wouldnt not let you do it....its simply there so you can control your rpms somewhat. Like if you get stuck you can drop it to first and then it wont shift. like in snow or what not. Trust me dude its bad for the tranny. Read your manual too, it also tells you to take precautions shifting it manualy. But im not saying that you absolutely cant do it...im just saying dont do it all the time and never use drive because thats not what the auto was made to do. You get what im saying.

then what can he use? Reverse? the big N? Umm this whole thread that i started was...about having it in drive not 1 and then start driving...I have heard from plenty of people that this is bad so i just reconnected it.

Im not so sure which is worse....I would think if you just had to shift manually it would be better then disconnecting the wires i mentioned earlier...and if you want to shift faster but dont want to manually do it then my method is better. BUT in the end NEITHER METHOD IS GOOD FOR YOUR CAR! Just do the 5-Spd swap like me 240SXaddict

dang its hard 2 find a m/t man anyways i wasted the damn 1200 cuz my mom took my car 2 get the tranny fix so if she hadnt done that i would of but now i cant i have 2 do the suspension and the A/C (thats real important the A/C over here in L.A lol)

i think the manually shifting the auto is bologna. my Z had 190000 miles on it, i had it for 4 years, and manually shifted it all the time, just dont downshift, thats a no-no. but for a race, sure, drop it into first and when you get near redline, slide it up one and so on, did it probably 500 times while having the car, and spanked a lot of other cars. like this fc3s rx-7 turbo II, he laughed at me at the drag strip, he came up and said hey, want to run em, and i said sure, and he looked in my door and saw the auto, and said, well, just put it in gear and go eh? and he laughed, and i just said yep. we lined up at the tree, i pulled from him all the way down the track, in the 1/8, i beat him by 3 car lengths. what he didnt see was my greddy relief valve, boost controller, etc., but he was boosted too anyway, but it was a fun victory.

funny thing was, after i beat him, he acted like something was wrong with his car, and left the strip.

I have manually shifted a auto tranny many thousands of times (upshifted) on my old 240SX, Trans Ams, Camaro's, you name it...

well downshifting an A/T i think is bad cuz it stalls for a second or so and it sounds bad i did it once in traffic and i decided 2 downshift the car stalled i was like oh crap and the car behind me almost hit me so for me downshifting is a no-no
