Is this on your "new" Sub? Disconnecting the plug at the pump will "definitely" affect the steering as it will make it easier at all speeds. This is something you should only do to see if the problem is mechanical or electrical. If the problem goes away, replace the steering sensor ASAP and reconnect the pump wiring. The steering sensor is a 90% cure for this problem.
