One of the councillors who voted no personally donated $1,000. The real question is should it be a municipal responsibility or an individual decision to donate. And if you do donate municipally who decides what agencies get the money. Our senior levels of government have already contributed over 100 million in tsunami aid.

This will be my last transmission. The fireworks is a red herring and has
not been decided upon as of yet. It really doesn't matter where the funds
are coming from, you could argue that most recreational local issues are a
waste of money. Our mistake was that we even considered making a donation
when most other local governments have not and then had the international
media distort and sensationalize the facts. Not everything is black and
white unless of course you are George Bush and you're either with us or
against us.
