stator inside t/c mabye locking up/not locking up. it is located between engine and tranny on flexplate (like where a clutch is on 5-speed)

when i was out today i listened as i put it from park to drive, and sometimes you can hear a big clunk...i better start pricing out some used transmissions soon, or pricing out a rebuild

This is a common problem in AUTO trannys. Check the fuilds if there full then do a filter change. Its cause from the pressure in the tranny dropping when your decelerating or letting off the gas pedal going up hill. The fluid then runs to the back of the tranny and has to build the pressure back up to ingauge.

When a torque converter messes up it's like a clutch tearing up only you can't just tighten the clutch cable like on a manual. Should be about as much as a clutch to install ??? Might actually be cheaper to just find a whole re-built auto tranny. GL

cjz89civic...i have an 89 hatch..1.5...u mentioned a filter change..but i was told mine doesn't have a filter....?????
