Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
i did read that the stock pistons are not a good match cause the valves hit the pistons (ithink thats what they were saying it was witten in F.O.B) but a b16 piston would fix this just use the stock crank or some after maket ones. Anyway would this motor be faster than a gsr? ( i really wish i knew of sombody that has done this)

Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
b16 pistons is higher comp than a b20 pistons. so if any of them are hitting, its the b16 pistons. but they dont because its just like an ls motor

My Ek is my only car, and for a while it was a N/A B20 VTEC. 84.5MM domed wisecos, ARP's, eagle rods, ported ITR heads, crower 402's, cheap DC header, and hondata. Made lots of power, turned it to 9000 daily. |

Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
well you cant use b16, gsr, and type r pistons because they all come from engines w/an 81mm bore, the b20 has an 84mm bore so that wouldnt work.

Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
so you would need 84 mm pistons that are domed or whatever to do the vtec head right? and yes a b16 or itr tranny is a hell of lot funner but i dont have the money to fully build it to run at high rpms all day like the itr's and b16 motors and a ls is more practicle for daily driving and has a decent ratio. but a top end geared for 193 is pretty high(my old rx-7 was geared for 191 and it could never push over 140 cause it just ran out of power)

Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
you dont neccessarily need domed pistons to run a lsvtec or crvtec. its just that higher comp pistons give you more power.

Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
what all would he need to do to get the crvtec to rev higher?

Re: are b20b vtec's unstable
how high do you plan on revving this motor too ?
well since his b20 already has a vtec oil pump, that takes care of that. next thing would be the rod bolts, stock rod bolts are weak and will stretch and break. get some arp rod bolts. thats the basics right there. |
